Job summary

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts invites applications for its Audio Description & Digital Accessibility Fellow. This 10-month fellowship offers up to 20 hours per week at $28/hour, with most work in person in New York City and some remote hours, and focuses on accessibility for people who are blind or have low vision.

Qualifications

• Current or recent graduate student in Disability Studies, Performance Studies, or Programming/Marketing with an emphasis on Accessibility.
• Strong understanding of live audio description for performances and/or assistive technology for digital navigation used by people who are blind or have low vision.
• Candidates with personal or professional experience with disability are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Research best practices in audio description and digital accessibility, meeting with leaders in the field.
• Support projects focused on accessibility for people who are blind or have low vision, including live events and digital navigation.
• Design, test and analyze feedback from stakeholders and provide recommendations to the Digital team.
• Conduct user testing of digital accessibility through manual and automated tests and contribute to program development.
• Provide administrative support and help with staffing and correspondence for access programs.

Position: Audio Description & Digital Accessibility Fellow

Term: Sept/Oct 2026-June/July 2027

Overview

With equal focus on access initiatives and professional development, the goal of this Fellowship is to educate the next generation of leaders in the accessibility field while providing a bridge between academic research and practice at LCPA. This fellow will work collaboratively across departments to support projects focused on accessibility for people who are blind or have low vision, including audio description for live events and digital accessibility.

The Fellow will research best practices in audio description and digital accessibility, and will meet with leaders in the field. In addition to contributing to ongoing projects and investing in professional development, the Fellow will complete a capstone project that demonstrates innovation in program development that will be presented to staff.

This Fellowship is 10 months; up to 20 hours/week at $28/hour, mainly in person with some remote hours.

The ideal candidate is a current or recent graduate student in Disability Studies, Performance Studies, or Programming/Marketing with an emphasis on Accessibility, and brings a strong understanding of live audio description for performances and/or assistive technology for digital navigation used by people who are blind or have low vision. Candidates with personal or professional experience with disability are strongly preferred.

Access Programs Fellowship projects may include:

• Researching, planning and supporting audio description for live events, with a focus on dance.
• Preparing for and welcoming guests who are blind or have low vision to Lincoln Center
• Designing and analyzing feedback from stakeholders in audio description, including access workers, artists and audience members.
• Conduct user testing digital accessibility through manual and automated tests. Provide recommendations to Digital team for improvements.
• Supporting staffing, registration and correspondence with program participants for access programs
• Providing administrative departmental support through phone, email and in person at events

This Fellow will be required to work flexible hours, including weekdays, nights, and weekends.
