Job description

The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. Summary

Guards Company property during the night against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry; monitors sprinkler and other mechanical systems to ensure overnight operation; and assists in receiving incoming cattle.

Key Responsibilities

Include the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists in receiving cattle by unloading, counting and weighing cattle.
  • Ensure proper pen placement and all paperwork is completed, based on instructions from Cattle Manager.
  • Assist incoming commodity trucks with scale ticket completion and placement of product.
  • Patrols feedlot grounds and buildings; warns violators of trespassing infractions; contacts local authorities in the event of fire or presence of unauthorized persons; watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, water leaks, and security doors left unlocked.
  • Secures feedlot gates and doors to prevent entry by unauthorized persons.
  • Monitors mechanical systems to ensure proper overnight functionality and completes minor maintenance fixes or contacts manager.
  • Operates front end loader to transfer feed commodities within feedlot for efficient truck loading.
Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Large animal handling experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
