Job Description & Requirements

This is an exempt level position, CoE. The Carbohydrate Solutions Feedhouse Technology Center of Excellence supports plant process areas related to the manufacture of high-quality animal feed and biofuels products:

  1. Corn Gluten Feed Pellets (CGFP)
  2. 60% Corn Gluten Meal
  3. Corn Germ

These are produced through the following primary unit operations:

  1. Dewatering
  2. Drying
  3. Evaporation
  4. Grinding
  5. Pelleting

This position will primarily support the continuous improvement and optimization of the Decatur, IL wet mill feed house, while also sharing knowledge and collaborating with colleagues across ADM’s other wet and dry corn milling facilities in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska. The technology engineer will play a critical role in helping ADM achieve its energy intensity and sustainability goals through improvements in reliability, efficiency, and yield recovery.

Position Summary: The Technology Engineer will apply engineering principles to new and existing facilities with tasks ranging from process design to the evaluation/implementation of new technologies. The primary purpose of the position is to ensure plant process systems are designed, built, operated, and maintained at optimal levels.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Display a dedication to lead, develop, and support safety and promote a safety culture. Promote continuous process safety improvement.
  2. Benchmark the location versus internal and external best available technologies and drive improvements.
  3. Manage and prioritize the Wave portfolio in cooperation with the Plant Manager or Focused improvement pillar and/or the Director of Technology, where applicable.
  4. Develop and maintain a 5-year project portfolio to include capital budgeting, execution, and to strike a balance between NDE and productivity/growth.
  5. Collaborate with the appropriate COE’s to ensure alignment of technology.
  6. Explore, propose, and/or champion new process technologies and equipment suppliers.
  7. Work within the Global Technology Center to standardize operations, share standard methodologies, and implement new technologies.
  8. Assist plant operations in solving applicable technical problems.
  9. Support the facility in setting up goals.
  10. Work closely with company subject matter experts on the implementation of innovative approaches to plant operation and maintenance.
  11. Act as a resource for plant process engineers through coaching, mentoring, and conducting training sessions.
  12. Create/revise process control narratives to support operations.
  13. Work with instrumentation and controls to upgrade from our existing DCS to Delta V.
Required Skills:
  1. Dedication to working safely and to the awareness for the safety of others.
  2. Strong knowledge of a variety of process unit operations, such as extraction, biodiesel, extrusion, evaporation, drying, grinding, and centrifugation.
  3. Experience with optimization/analytical processes and tools.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with plant engineers and management.
  5. Working knowledge of common process drawings and documentation, such as P&IDs and control narratives.
  6. Willingness to spend time in plant areas – tolerate extreme temperatures, walk long distances, stand, climb stairs and ladders, and move through close spaces.
  7. Ability to work effectively on a team as well as independently while traveling to remote plant locations.
  8. High level of motivation and results-oriented way of working.
  9. Some travel with overnight stay required.
Required Education:

Bachelor's Degree in the fields of Chemistry, Food Processing, Production Manufacturing, Engineering, Technology, or other related field.

Required Experience:

Minimum 5 years’ experience with plant process systems.

Desired Experience:

Operations supervision and/or Process/Project Engineer.
