Job summary

Cobalt Cattle Company LLC in Kansas seeks a feed truck driver to operate a feed truck, load and deliver rations, and perform daily equipment checks. You will ensure accurate distribution of feed to bunks and report maintenance needs to the team.

The role requires adherence to safety procedures and the ability to work in varying weather and hours. Ideal candidates have experience with heavy equipment and knowledge of the cattle feedlot industry; strong teamwork and communication skills are

Qualifications

  • Comply with ISO/HACCP and OSHA safety procedures.
  • Operate feed delivery software and load rations accurately.
  • Load trucks to specified sizes and deliver evenly to bunks.
  • Perform daily equipment checklists and minor repairs.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the feed area.
  • Communicate feed overages/underages with other drivers.
  • Be prepared for non-traditional hours and extreme weather.
  • Work well in a team or independently; English communication preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a feed truck and deliver to animals safely and efficiently.
  • Perform daily equipment inspection and minor maintenance.
  • Load and distribute feed using Digi-Star software.
  • Coordinate with team to ensure correct ration distribution.
  • Maintain housekeeping and safety compliance in work areas.

Job description

Overview: As a feed truck driver, you will operate a feed truck and deliver feed to animals in an efficient and safe manner. This position will also perform daily equipment checklist & perform minor repairs as needed.


Essential Functions

  • Work with the applicable feed delivery software system (Digi-Star) to ensure that proper rations are loaded and fed to the proper bunk.

  • Accurately load trucks to specified load size.

  • Deliver feed to bunks in an evenly distributed manner.

  • Notify appropriate personnel regarding repairs or maintenance needed.

  • Follow equipment service checklist daily and perform minor repairs as needed.

  • Communicate with other drivers feed delivery overages/underages.

  • Maintain housekeeping in the feed area.

  • Ensure compliance with all ISO/HACCP and OSHA/safety procedures, rules and regulations.


Competencies


  • Adequate verbal and written communication skills.

  • Adequate mathematical skills: Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide number.

  • Experience operating heavy equipment.

  • Knowledge of cattle feedlot industry highly desirable.

  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours as required

  • This individual must have the ability to work with a team, or individually.

  • Ability to communicate in English is preferred, not required.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks when appropriate.

Work environment


  • You will be required to work at times in extreme weather conditions, such as rain, snow, wind, heat, cold.

  • Ability to weekends, and holiday when shift requires.


Physical demands


  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.

  • Ability to work extended hours 10-11 hours per day.

  • This individual must be able to occasionally lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to lift body with three points of contact up 3-4 vertical steps 4 feet up into truck 25-30 times per day.

  • Use step ladder and balance body while reaching to clean windows and mirrors on feedtruck.

  • Must be able to scoop out 30-200 pounds of feed with a shovel daily.

  • Must be able to climb in and out of 24 inch tall bunks.

  • Drive and maneuver feed truck with one hand and operate controls with the other hand.

  • Bend, stoop, climb, and twist to perform preventative maintenance, not limited to carrying 20lbs of truck fluid to top of engine.

  • Operate a shop broom to sweep feed.

  • Must be able to climb under feedtruck to perform preventative maintenance on knees and/or mechanic creeper once a week.

  • Must be able to climb into the bed of the truck via 3ft x 3ft opening to perform maintenance.

Required Education And Experience


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1-3 month’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience operating heavy equipment.

  • Preferred education and experience

  • Experience operating heavy equipment in a feedlot setting.
