Job description
Overview

This remote (virtual) position is based from home within the territory described below. We’re hiring a Feed Sales Specialist to focus on animal nutrition/feed sales in the SW corner of Missouri. You will work with multiple species, with about 60% Cattle and 20% Equine. In this role, you will partner with member cooperatives, independent dealers, and end user customers to help increase feed sales by assisting customers in achieving production and profitability improvements using Purina feed programs and products. The role focuses on increasing market share through the use and sale of proprietary technologies and products and your knowledge of animal nutrition.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct targeted prospect calls to develop new and existing business growth; primarily call on cattle and equine animal owners to evaluate feeding programs and advise on improvements.
  • Analyze sales data for each assigned dealer/coop to determine and track growth; identify underperforming areas and develop action plans to grow their Purina feed business.
  • Support selling events, customer meetings, and promotions at the dealer/co-op level, partnering with the dealer and their staff to implement and measure efficacy.
  • Develop Joint Business Plans annually with assigned cooperatives and dealers to support the development and execution of sales growth strategies and tactics that incorporate Purina feed programs and technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with coop and dealer management to build strong, trust-based relationships focused on the needs of their customers; position Purina programs, tools, technologies, and services. Develop training programs as needed to meet individual and group needs.
  • Provide tracking reports (CRM) on marketing and service activities as required by management and maintain up-to-date client history records.
Experience-Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or a related agricultural or business field. Candidates without a bachelor’s degree who have proven sales and industry experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of proven field sales experience with an animal science/nutrition emphasis and a track record of growing and maintaining a customer base.
  • Must be able to travel in the assigned territory, including overnights when necessary.
  • Strong understanding of animal husbandry, current management practices, and nutritional guidelines.
  • Competence in basic animal nutrition and management recommendations in the market.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Outlook, Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, Salesforce).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong focus, and strong organization and time management skills.
  • Success in this position requires cold calling, high internal drive, relationship-building ability, public speaking aptitude, and leadership in a team environment.
Compensation

This is a sales role compensated with a base salary plus commission. Base salary is dependent on experience/tenure and generally ranges between:

Salary Range: $87,000 – $107,000

Target bonus: $30,000

In most cases, candidates offered employment can expect to be hired at a pay rate near the middle of our salary ranges.
