Job summary

Versova seeks a Feed & Grain Superintendent to lead grain origination, merchandising, and movement in support of our feed mill operations. You will manage purchasing, inventory, and logistics while partnering with operations, finance, and farmers to optimize performance.

The role emphasizes safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across grain handling, storage, and processing activities in a large egg production network.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in grain operations, merchandising, or related field.
• Experience with grain origination, purchasing, merchandising, inventory management, or trading.

Job description

The Feed & Grain Superintendent i s responsible for leading grain merchandising, origination, receiving, quality, storage, inventory, and movement supporting company feed mill operations. This role develops and maintains producer relationships, manages corn and soybean purchasing and merchandising activities, monitors grain markets and inventory positions, and coordinates grain movement to support feed production and business objectives . The Superintendent also provides leadership for grain and scale operations, manure management, crop insurance activities, safety and regulatory compliance, and financial performance while partnering closely with Feed Mill Operations, Business Unit Leadership, Purchasing, Nutrition, Finance, farmers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions

• Develop and execute corn and soybean origination and merchandising strategies to support feed mill requirements and external sales opportunities
• Build and maintain relationships with farmers and producers to support grain origination, purchasing , delivery schedules, and long-term supply needs
• Monitor futures markets, basis levels, commodity pricing, local supply and demand, crop conditions, and other market factors to support grain purchasing and merchandising decisions
• Execute and administer grain purchase agreements, including cash, basis, forward, and other applicable grain contracts
• Manage grain inventory positions and coordinate purchasing, movement, and sales to maintain appropriate inventory levels, manage exposure, and maximize business value
• Oversee grain and ingredient receiving, grading, unloading, storage, conditioning, drying, quality control, inventory management, and outbound movement
• Ensure corn and other ingredients meet established quality specifications and are properly received, stored, handled, and directed to appropriate locations
• Coordinate inbound and outbound grain logistics with producers, suppliers, Feed Mill Operations, buyers, and transportation partners to support efficient grain movement and uninterrupted feed production
• Manage grain and ingredient inventories, transaction records, and position reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and inventory controls
• Lead, supervise, train, and develop grain elevator, scale house, and other assigned employees, including staffing and seasonal labor planning
• Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with applicable grain handling, confined space, lockout/tagout, hot work, fall protection, and other workplace safety requirements
• Maintain required grain facility licenses, permits, records, and procedures and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, OSHA, and company requirements
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for grain receiving, handling, storage, quality, inventory, and movement
• Manage the manure management program, including scheduling, sampling, loading, movement, storage, compost inventories, and required documentation in partnership with Business Unit Leadership, Buyers, and Operations
• Support crop insurance activities by developing producer relationships, assisting with coverage and renewal activities, maintaining applicable licensing, and coordinating with agency partners
• Prepare and maintain grain position reports, inventory reconciliations, merchandising analyses, budgets, forecasts, and other operational and financial reporting
• Partner with Feed Mill Operations, Purchasing, Nutrition, Finance, and other functions to improve grain, ingredient, inventory, and supply chain performance
• Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities related to grain handling, merchandising, logistics , inventory management, safety, and operational efficiency
• Address producer, supplier, and customer concerns and coordinate timely resolution
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture , Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 5+ years of progressive experience in grain operations, grain merchandising, agricultural commodities, feed mill operations, or related field
• Experience with grain origination, purchasing, merchandising, inventory management, or trading
• Strong knowledge of grain grading, quality, conditioning, drying, storage, and handling practices
• Working knowledge of grain markets, basis, futures, and common grain contract structures
• Experience leading, supervising, and developing operational employees
• Working knowledge of grain facility safety and regulatory requirements
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, scale systems, grain trading platforms, and applicable inventory or grain management systems
• Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with farmers, producers, suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to producer, supplier, and company locations
• Ability to obtain required crop insurance licensing within the established timeframe

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within commercial grain, feed manufacturing, poultry, egg production, or agricultural operations
• Experience with corn and soybean origination and merchandising
• Experience managing significant grain inventories and commodity positions
• Experience with grain accounting, commodity management, or ERP systems
• Experience with rail or other large-volume grain transportation and logistics
• Familiarity with OSHA grain handling requirements
• Active crop insurance license
• Knowledge of commercial animal feed operations and ingredient requirements

This position is based at a feed mill and grain handling operation and requires work in both indoor and outdoor environments. The role involves exposure to grain dust, varying temperatures, loud machinery, moving equipment, agricultural products, and odors associated with grain storage and manure management. The Feed & Grain Superintendent may be required to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, work at heights, and enter confined spaces in accordance with established safety procedures. Travel may be required to company facilities, farms, producer locations, suppliers, customers, and regulatory agencies. Work schedules may vary based on harvest and operational requirements and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or extended hours. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required .
