Job summary

Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. is seeking a Federal Telecommunications Engineering Specialist to lead communication designs for U.S. Government projects and coordinate with BIM/CAD teams.

You will create conceptual and detailed system designs, produce drawings, and ensure design quality across disciplines. The role requires at least 4 years of telecom design experience, strong knowledge of NEC/IEEE/EIA/TIA/BICSI standards, and U.S. citizenship for government work.

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain any required security clearances.
  • 4+ years of experience designing applicable telecommunication systems.
  • Knowledge of NEC, IEEE, EIA, TIA, and BICSI industry standards related to ICT, low voltage, and telecommunications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead communication designs and coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Create conceptual and detailed systems designs, including drawing production and design analyses.
  • Coordinate with BIM/CAD team for drawing production and perform QA reviews.
  • Manage assigned budgets, scopes and schedules; mentor junior staff.

The Opportunity
  • Lead communication designs and coordinate with other disciplines
  • Create conceptual and detailed systems designs, including producing design drawings, specifications and design analysis deliverables
  • Coordinate with a BIM/CAD team for drawing production
  • Perform quality control duties and independent technical reviews
  • Manage assigned budgets, scopes and schedules
  • Mentoring and providing guidance/instruction to less experienced staff members
  • Other potential duties:
  • May perform fieldwork and write assessment reports
  • May assist with creation of design guides and templates
  • May provide support to business development or pursuit activitie
Preferred Qualifications

As part of this role, you will be assigned to projects supporting U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Due to the nature of the work, candidate must be a U.S. Citizen. The following are preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NEC, IEEE, EIA, TIA, BICSI industry standards, codes and best practices related to the design of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), low voltage, and telecommunications systems
  • Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems from a safety and constructability perspective
  • Strong knowledge of inside plant (ISP) cabling infrastructure to include telecommunications spaces and pathways, copper, and optical fiber cabling and connectivity
  • Experience in outside plant (OSP) design of copper and fiber optic communication systems
  • 4+ years of experience designing applicable telecommunication systems
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) required
Minimum Qualifications

All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all ofthe following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
