Job summary

KPMG LLP seeks an Advisory Seasonal Intern, Federal Technology Enablement - PhD Data Science/Data Engineer to advance AI-enabled capabilities for federal programs. You will develop anomaly detection models, design large-scale knowledge graphs, and create reproducible pipelines while explaining model decisions to stakeholders.

This role requires a PhD track, US work eligibility, and readiness to work across office sites or remote settings.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a PhD in Data Science, CS, or EE/CE
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 or above
• Eligible for or possess a U.S. Government Security clearance
• Strong technical, business acumen, and collaboration skills in a dynamic environment
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python and relevant ML/data science libraries
• Exposure to agentic AI frameworks and data visualization/tools; cloud platforms and containers preferred
• Must reside within commutable distance to the office; U.S. work authorization; no visa sponsorship now or in the future

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and develop AI-powered capabilities including anomaly detection and agentic AI architectures
• Develop reproducible data pipelines and large-scale knowledge graphs
• Research and implement post-hoc explainability methods with human-in-the-loop refinement
• Iterate on models with rigorous documentation and risk management
• Partner with data scientists, engineers, policy staff and federal stakeholders to translate research into recommendations
• Communicate mathematical formulations and trade-offs clearly with technical and non-technical audiences using visuals and reports
