Job summary

The United States Attorney's Office (USAO) is seeking a Paralegal/Legal Assistant II to support the Asset Forfeiture Section. You will assist attorneys with case materials, prepare digests of decisions, draft correspondence, and help organize exhibits and witness materials for trial.

Excellent written and oral communication, strong organizational skills, and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite are essential. This role requires U.S.

Qualifications

• Paralegal Certificate or High School Diploma with 2+ years in a law office or government setting.
• Trial and automated litigation support experience preferred.
• Ability to grasp and understand the organization and functions of the customer.
• Knowledge to conduct basic legal research, including standard legal citation.
• Excellent communication skills; oral and written, including legal writing.
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite and databases; use of legal research tools.

Responsibilities

• Assists attorney in reviewing case material and preparing digests of decisions and legal references.
• Drafts, edits, and reviews non-legal information; creates correspondence and research reports.
• Help prepare for trial by organizing exhibits and creating statistical charts and photographs.
• Interviews potential witnesses and prepares summary interview reports.
• Reviews prepared legal documents to confirm citations and references.
• Attends pre-trial meetings to review case materials and request missing information.
• After/during trial prepares summaries of testimony and depositions.
• Investigates facts and laws, searches public records, and prepares cases and reports.
