Job summary

State of Washington Department of Natural Resources seeks a Federal Lands Special Projects Manager to oversee the section’s long‑term project portfolio and related policy development from the Olympia, WA area. The role includes field support, contract compliance, and grant management.

The successful candidate will coordinate with internal and external partners, manage multiple programs, and apply knowledge of timber/land management practices alongside public administration principles.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree with a major emphasis in forestry, natural resource management, or closely related field and five years of relevant experience.
• Experience in performance management, organization planning, budgeting, contract management, and public/partner relations.
• Knowledge of public administration, budgeting, economics and management principles.
• Knowledge of natural resource management and timber/land management practices.
• Ability to manage multiple programs and projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight and management of the section’s long-term project portfolio and policy development.
• Offer project field assistance including compliance, monitoring, and technical support.
• Draft, review, and ensure compliance of federal and state contracts and agreements.
• Develop emergent project types and pilot new mechanisms.
• Coordinate with internal and external partners on current and future projects and grant management.
