JOB TITLE: Education Technician/Instructor

SUMMARY:
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Air Force Leadership and Management Studies, also known as the Air Force Civilian Associate Degree Program (CADP), aims to provide foundational leadership, management, behavioral, and air power development for Air Force civilians. Ira C. Eaker Center for Leadership Development administers the CADP program through the Civilian Leadership Development School (CLDS), focusing on providing civilian undergraduate and professional continuing education and workforce development integrated with the Total Force.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Education Technician/Instructor will primarily serve as an Academic Advisor and must perform the following duties satisfactorily:
- Create and execute education support project plans following a project delivery approach.
- Provide academic advising to students within the CADP.
- Assist students with completing and updating advising sheets (degree plans) based on established, approved course lists, CLEP/DSST exams, accreditation, and subject matter requirements per AU Registrar standards.
- Help students identify CADP-approved CLEP/DSST exams to fulfill general education and elective requirements and guide their decision-making.
- Provide information and assistance to students in updating their advising sheets (CADP degree plans).
- Document each student's advising session in CADP/AU systems.
- Track all student advising sheets.
- Update AU/CADP student records, AFVEC, and related systems whenever advising sheets are updated.
- Identify students missing advising sheets by the end of SOAR and assist in completing them based on individual academic strengths and transfer credits.
- Use CADP spreadsheets, AU, and AU Registrar systems to track data, completion metrics, and other relevant information.
- Develop draft transfer credit packages for students based on transcripts, transfer requests, and approved course/exam lists, then submit for government review and approval.
- Coordinate the acceptance of transfer credits with the AU Registrar.
- Support student success in credit-by-exam testing to meet Foundational Studies requirements.
- Discuss general education and elective requirements with students.
- Interact with students via phone, email, or collaboration platforms, adapting to their needs.
- Be knowledgeable about AF CivTA, CLEP/DSST processes, registration, and available resources, advising students accordingly.
- Maintain AFAEMS accounts and update advising sheets accordingly.
- Be familiar with CLEP and Prometric (DSST) testing sites and registration processes, guiding students through procedures.
- Update or create guides on AF CivTA, CLEP, and DSST processes for students.
- Track and support student progress toward foundational studies completion.
- Maintain regular contact with students to ensure they are on track for graduation.
- Update records in AFVEC and other systems to reflect degree requirements completion.
- Identify students not on track for timely graduation and counsel them.
- Provide weekly, monthly, and ad hoc reports on student progress and metrics.
- Escalate policy issues or unusual cases to the government.
- Support graduation and degree completion processes, including transcript review and status reporting.
- Be knowledgeable about CADP policies and resources, referring students as needed.
- Follow all applicable regulations regarding student privacy and confidentiality.
- Instruct students in CADP courses, including seminars and discussion board reviews, providing feedback on their work.
- Attend required instructor training to meet AETC and CADP requirements.
Requirements
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum one (1) year of experience as an online university-level instructor.
- Minimum one (1) year experience with LMS platforms (Blackboard, Canvas, or similar).
- At least one (1) year of experience teaching via Microsoft Teams or similar collaboration tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Minimum one (1) year experience using Adobe Connect or similar platforms for live teaching.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field with 2 years of advising/counseling experience OR a Master’s or Terminal degree in these fields with similar experience.
- At least two (2) years of advising or counseling experience in an academic setting.
- Air Force civilian or military experience within the past 7 years, or completion of relevant PME within the past 7 years.
- Two (2) years of Air Force academic writing experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English; effective communication with management, clients, and colleagues.
REASONING ABILITY:
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze situations and formulate plans of action.
