Job summary

Federal Public Defender, District of Arizona, invites applications for a full-time Investigator in the Trial Unit based in Flagstaff. The investigator will support felony and misdemeanor cases with field and open-source investigations, prepare materials, and coordinate with attorneys.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent with three years of general and specialized experience; a Bachelor's degree is preferred, and U.S. citizenship is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least three years of general experience and three years of specialized experience; higher education may substitute.
• Ability to write clearly and present complex concepts and ideas.
• U.S. Citizenship and willingness to travel extensively.
• Employment subject to a satisfactory background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Case preparation and reviewing records; meeting with clients; locating and interviewing witnesses.
• Conducting scene inspections, taking photos and measurements, and drafting diagrams.
• Identifying and meeting with experts; drafting investigative reports and subpoenas; testifying in court as needed.
• Developing guilt and penalty-phase theories in collaboration with attorneys; supporting trial strategy.
