Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is seeking entry-level Border Patrol Agents for GL-5/GL-7 with sign-on and retention incentives. This federal role offers a clear career path in public safety and law enforcement, with nationwide location options and structured training.

Duty locations include multiple sectors across the Southwest and border regions. Successful applicants will undergo intensive training at the Border Patrol Academy, with opportunities for advancement through a formal grade

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating the ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and remain composed in stressful situations.
• A bachelor’s degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field from an accredited college or university.
• A combination of general work experience and college education, calculated from transcripts submitted with the application.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and appropriate enforcement methods.
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and physical evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Performing farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks as part of patrol duties.
• Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using government assets to fulfill USBP mission.
