The FEA Engineer will support the design, development and prototyping of new RV mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. This role is a key contributor within the team, collaborating cross-functionally to identify opportunities for design improvements. You’ll work on projects that move from conceptualization through prototyping and into production launch, helping to shape the future of RV Products.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work within the design team on evaluating designs created through their structural performance, while weighing part weight and cost at all stages of the product development lifecycle.
- Develop, set up, and execute FEA simulations for components, chassis, body structures, interior assemblies, and other systems.
- Create standardized test procedures for product designs that align with the simulations run on those parts.
- Reference and create internal testing and validation procedures for simulation and lab testing based on, but not limited to, regulatory standards, safety standards, and best practices.
- Correlate simulation results with physical test data to validate models and refine accuracy.
- Present findings, assumptions, and recommendations to cross-functional engineering teams and leadership.
- Support design reviews, DFMA, and continuous improvement activities.
- Self-direct workload and lead an agile team.
- Prepare clear and comprehensive simulation reports, including methodology, assumptions, and conclusions.
- Design fixtures or jigs to aid in the physical testing and validation process.
- Research and identify appropriate material types to be used in the product or process being developed.
- Support other engineers in the team in identifying opportunities for improvement in design.
- Completion of the following analysis types:
- Buckling analysis
- Modal analysis
- Harmonic analysis
- Transient analysis
- Random vibration analysis
- Composite modeling
- Durability analysis
- Explicit dynamic analysis
- Material calibration analysis
- Topology and shape optimization
- Support the prototype build from conception through implementation.
- Work closely with internal cross-functional teams, contractors, suppliers, and outside vendors to achieve desired results.
- Work as part of a functional team under the direction of the assigned manager in the timely execution of projects. Includes providing status updates for assigned tasks and activities.
- Develop and refine skills related to operational improvements to support both project execution and training of operational staff.
- Travel will be necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on Structural Mechanics required.
- 3-5 years of product design and FEA validation experience required.
- Proficiency and demonstrable experience in the simulation types listed above and how it pertains to product and equipment design.
- Must have proficiency in mechanical system design, mechanical engineering drawing creation, MS Office, MS Visio, SolidWorks and 2D AutoCAD.
- Experience in leading teams during new product or process design implementation is a must.
