Overview

FC MEO Repairman Department: DPW - Flood Control Employment Status: UFCW. Laborers, Non-Exempt, Full-Time (40 Hours/Week). Salary: Grade 8L, Step 05 - Step 08 $21.31/Hour - $24.13/Hour + Licenses. Schedule: Mon-Fri. Certifications/Licenses Required: MA Class B CDL. License, Grade 2 Wastewater Operator's License (obtain within one (1) year). Summary: The City of Chicopee's Department of Public Works - Flood Division is hiring a MEO Repairman who is responsible for inspection, operation, and maintenance of eight (8) Flood Control pump stations of various design and capacity, and eight (8) miles of levees and flood walls. Performs all work and tasks according to the City of Chicopee, US Army Corps of Engineers, and US Environmental Protection Agency requirements and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Works together with all divisions of the WPC & DPW. Supervises, assigns and participates in daily jobs as required.
  • Welding, cutting, changing oil and lubrication of equipment.
  • Computer and data entry and retrieval work. Maintain building, equipment and operational logs.
  • Operates pumps, motors, and electrical equipment, power tools, mowers, tractors, and motor vehicles.
  • Operate, clean, repair, lubricate, and paint pumps, drives, gates, mowers, buildings and vehicles.
  • Building and grounds upkeep; mowing of levee systems and storm water retention/detention basins.
  • Operate mowing/landscaping equipment including slope mowers, boom mowers, tractors, flail mowers, grinders, chippers, hand mowers, hand saws, chain saws, york rake, and related grounds keeping equipment.
  • Cleans buildings, washes windows, and empties trash cans; paints interior and exterior of buildings.
  • Drives truck and loads fallen tree limbs and roadside trash onto truck; delivers refuse to landfill.
  • Operates various vehicles within the DPW as required (e.g., dump trucks, roll-off containers, Bobcat).
  • Reads meters and records readings in logbook; prepares reports as instructed.
  • Replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts in machines and mowers.
  • Assists in planning and purchasing equipment and supplies.
  • Monitors river elevations and supports 24-hour flood protection operations; trains staff and emergency personnel; sets up crews, schedules, and shifts during routine and emergency flood operations.
  • Purchases supplies and equipment according to City policies and contracts.
  • Assists in planning of projects, maintenance, and equipment upgrades as needed.
Qualifications
  • Massachusetts Class B CDL Driver's License - Required.
  • Grade 2 Wastewater Operator's License - Required (obtain within one (1) year).
  • Massachusetts Class A CDL Driver's License - Preferred.
  • Grade II (2) Collection System License - Desired.
  • Prior experience with pumps and motors.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one (1) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
