Job summary

Women Against Abuse (WAA) is seeking a Fast Track Staff Attorney in Philadelphia, PA. The role provides immediate access to legal representation for victims of domestic violence in Protections From Abuse matters arising from emergency situations.

The attorney will be stationed in court four days per week and work 1 remote day when workload allows. Requirements include a Pennsylvania bar license, familiarity with the court system related to domestic violence, excellent written and oral skills,

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania.
• Familiarity with domestic violence court processes and protections.
• Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and manage multiple cases.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal representation to survivors of domestic violence.
• Conduct client interviews.

With over 150 staff, WAA serves over 10,000 individuals each year through our direct services, education, advocacy and outreach (2 - 100 bed safe havens, 14 transitional housing apartments, aftercare community-based case management services, legal services, hotline counseling, prevention & education, and advocacy).

Responsibilities
Stationed in court four (4) days per week, the role of our Fast Track Staff Attorney provides immediate access to legal representation for victims of domestic violence in Protections From Abuse matters rising out of emergency situations (in relation to DV and other related issues). Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following range of services:

• Provide legal representation to survivors of domestic violence
• Conduct client interviews
• Make court appearances
• Represent clients in trials
• Perform all necessary legal work
• Maintain files and ensure client data base is up to date/accurate
• Participate in program evaluation and planning
• Provide functional supervision of Legal Center staff when working on assigned cases

Requirements

• A Juris Doctorate, with a current license to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
• Familiarity with the court system in regard to domestic violence issues*
• Demonstrated excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated good-listening skills
• Demonstrated ability to effectively represent an advocacy agency or function
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member, required.
• Demonstrated ability to organize time and detail, including keeping of records
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population*
• Experience working in an urban setting*
• Demonstrated commitment to service of others
• Satisfactorily pass State & FBI criminal & Child Abuse clearances pre-hire; and regular renewals (all expenses paid by WAA)
• Bilingual or conversational in addition to English*

• Full-Time Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm (Hybrid: 4 days in office/court and 1 remote/work from home, as work load/case allows)

Pay Rate & Benefits:
