General Function

Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. Operates cash register accurately and scans product. Ensures cleanliness of store, quality and quantity of product, and tends to supply needs in the store and at the pumps.

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Fast and Fresh Department Manager; Assistant Fast and Fresh Department Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
• Greets customers with a smile, whether in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store.
• Attempts to learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
• Assists customers by: (examples include)
  • escorting them to products
  • securing products out of reach
  • loading or unloading heavy items
  • noting and passing along customer suggestions or requests
  • performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides helpful service to callers.
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a positive work environment.
• Operates cash register accurately, scans products, and reports cash discrepancies.
• Redeems coupons, food stamps, handles cash, checks, credit card transactions, and issues receipts.
• Packages merchandise for customers.
• Assists with inventory, checks in merchandise, stocks shelves, and maintains store cleanliness.
• Maintains proper sanitation and adheres to hygiene and dress guidelines.
• Reports to work as scheduled and on time.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

• Orders merchandise and supplies as needed.
• Prices products for customers as necessary.
• Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

• Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to file, post, mail, copy data, interview, guide, and provide basic directions.

Education and Experience

No formal education or experience required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to over 20 feet, with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
• Must perform activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to temperature extremes and dampness. Possible hazards include equipment movement, electrical shocks, and exposure to cleaning chemicals. Fast-paced environment.
