During this time, workers are needed to check the herd multiple times per day to ensure they are fed and have access to water, assist cows with calving as needed, identify, and treat sick animals or haul them to a veterinarian, document and tag new calves, log deaths, ensure the animals are in the correct locations, as necessary. Employees must be available during the busy calving season to perform these duties, which include assisting cows having trouble calving, feeding the herd using a farm truck, maintaining fences and corrals, documenting, and tagging new calves, logging deaths, identifying, and treating or isolating sick cows and calves, and hauling them to the veterinarian as needed.
