McLean Bagels is staffing two of the markets we serve, Fresh Farm Arlington and Fresh Farm Mosaic, operating Saturdays and Sundays. Roles involve setting up tents and equipment, toasting and topping bagels for takeaway, taking orders, charging, and bagging for later consumption.

Shifts allow swapping tasks among staff, with training provided to cover all activities. The team started in Feb 2025 and has grown on the strength of our sourdough bagels.

Job description

The business, McLean Bagels, has staffing openings at two of the three farmers markets that we presently serve, the Fresh Farm Arlington market on Courthouse Road and the Fresh Farm Mosaic market in Merrifield, on Saturdays and Sundays respectively.

Work activities include helping in setting up the tent and equipment, breaking it down afterwards, toasting and topping bagels ordered for takeaway, and taking orders, charging, and bagging bagels for later consumption. While a market is running, one can only prep or take orders/charge/bag, but during a shift the responsibilities can be switched with another staff member if desired. We try to have enough staff so that there is not too much prep work for any single person, and of course we provide training for all of these activities.

The business started in February, 2025, and has become popular and grown based on the popularity of its long-fermented sourdough bagels. The long process and the use of a sourdough starter in lieu of commercial yeast creates a richer, more complex taste that customers immediately notice while trying a free sample.

We also anticipate getting the occasional pop-up opportunity at the bustling DuPont Circle market that is also fun to serve.
