Job description

Are you interested in local agriculture, farmers markets, and food access? Do you love working outdoors with the public? The Renton Farmers Market is hiring seasonal Farmers Market Laborers to assist with the hands-on operations of the Market.

Under the supervision of the Farmers Market Coordinator, responsibilities include maintaining and supporting the weekly onsite operations of Renton Farmers Market (RFM). This involves setting up and dismantling equipment and materials each Market Day. The position requires work every Tuesday from June 3 to September 30, 2025, for 8-10 hours per Market Day, with occasional additional hours for pre- and post-Market duties and special projects.

Reports To: Farmers Market Coordinator
Supervises: None

Essential Functions:
  1. Set up and take down equipment and materials for Market and vendor operations.
  2. Maintain cleanliness of the market area throughout the day and at closing, including managing trash, compost, and recycling bins.
  3. Assist with operations of food assistance programs such as SNAP and SNAP Match.
  4. Collaborate with the Market staff, volunteers, and the Coordinator to ensure smooth Market operations.
  5. Ensure compliance with Market policies and relevant laws and regulations from agencies like the City of Renton, Public Health–Seattle & King County, and Washington State Department of Agriculture.
  6. Provide excellent customer service to shoppers, vendors, and community partners.
  7. Support end-of-day bookkeeping, vendor invoicing, and deposit reconciliation as needed.
  8. Perform clerical duties and maintain program records and databases as required.
Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:
  • Successfully pass a background check.
  • Obtain CPR and First Aid certification or be willing to do so upon employment.
  • Hold a Food Handler's Permit or be willing to obtain one upon employment.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Pass a driving record check.
  • Availability to work all 18 Market days.

  • Handle conflicts tactfully, patiently, and courteously.
  • Respond appropriately during emergencies.
  • Follow safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Build effective relationships with staff, community, and participants.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Understand and effectively communicate RFM's mission and operations.
  • Work respectfully with diverse groups.
Physical Demands:
  • Bend, stretch, and stand for long periods.
  • Communicate with various stakeholders.
  • Drive to offsite locations.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Move within City facilities and outdoors.
  • Operate a computer and office equipment.
Work Environment:
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Perform duties indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions at Piazza and Gateway Parks.
