Pay: £15 per hour

About the Role:

We’re looking for a warm, down-to-earth person who’s passionate about nature, growing things, and creating unforgettable visitor experiences. This exciting new role combines two key areas at The Jungle: helping manage our new 80-foot polytunnel filled with fresh herbs and veggies for our on-site restaurant, The Lazy Llama, and delivering our Gortanewry Farm Experience to groups and visitors.

It’s a hands-on, feel-good kind of job that connects people with nature, animals, and the food we grow. With flexible hours and a beautiful working environment, this is a perfect opportunity for someone with a love for gardening, a knack for storytelling, and a heart for hospitality.

Key Responsibilities:

Farm & Guest Experience:

  • Deliver our Gortanewry Farm Experience to school groups, families, and other visitors – sharing fun facts, guiding interactions with animals, and showcasing our working farm in an engaging way.
  • Provide a warm, informative, and interactive experience that reflects The Jungle’s charm and values.

Polytunnel & Growing Operations:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of our large polytunnel – planting, watering, weeding, harvesting and general upkeep.
  • Grow a wide variety of vegetables and herbs to supply our restaurant, The Lazy Llama.
  • Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to meet their needs for fresh, homegrown produce.
  • Assist with feeding, grooming, and handling of our llamas.
  • Help train new llama recruits for future trekking and guest interaction.

Who This Role Would Suit:

This role is perfect for someone practical and reliable, who enjoys a bit of fresh air and getting their hands dirty in a beautiful, outdoor setting. They will also need to be confident speaking in front of groups and have strong communication skills. Ideal for someone looking for part-time, meaningful work who’s passionate about sustainability, local food and connecting people with nature.

  • Friendly, confident communicator who enjoys interacting with groups
  • A love for the outdoors and a keen interest (or experience) in gardening or horticulture
  • Reliable, independent and happy working flexibly
  • Comfortable around animals – particularly llamas!
  • Willingness to learn and grow in the role with training provided

Step into The Farm at The Jungle and uncover the charm of Gortanewry Farm, nestled in the heart of Moneymore, County Londonderry. Steeped in five generations of Carmichael family heritage, this immersive experience invites guests to embrace tradition and experience the rich history of Gortanewry Farm. Led by our friendly team, visitors will explore the traditions and tales of the farm – baking their own soda bread, milking cows and meeting our llamas and pigs in the Woodland Farm. Enjoy a scenic hay cart ride while listening to stories of Gortanewry’s past, then tuck into a hearty Irish feast, complete with your homemade bread. Cap it all off with a bit of Ceili dancing or a bodhrán drumming session – it’s a magical celebration of nature, culture, and history.
