Farm Technician I - Operations

Onsite Albion, ME


Position Summary

This role supports the Research and Production team in growing and maintaining variety trials, breeding workshops, and seed production crops at the Albion Research facility and surrounding fields during the growing season. During the off-season, responsibilities include supporting operations at the Winslow facility in seed packing, shipping, and warehouse tasks. It is a full-time, hourly position reporting to the Assistant Farm Manager. Starting wage is $17.00/hour, with a start date in early May.


Position Responsibilities

Responsibilities include planting, irrigation, weed control, pest management, crop maintenance, harvest, seed cleaning, and other tasks. Tasks may involve working in repetitive environments and require timely, accurate completion. Communication with supervisors and participation in safety and training programs are essential. Off-season work involves cleanup and transition to operations, including seed packing, shipping, inventory management, and supporting shipping logistics using handheld inventory tools.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of one season as a seasonal farm crew member or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of organic and sustainable farming practices.
  • Basic tractor and tool training (training provided post-hire with approval).
  • Participation in ongoing training and production teams as needed.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and basic computer skills.
  • Understanding of Johnny's research farm systems.
  • Strong communication, attention to detail, dependability, and work ethic.
  • Basic math skills and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to operate pallet jacks and follow detailed instructions.
  • Valid Maine driver's license.
  • Ability to work safely, maintain professionalism, and respect company core values.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and count accurately.
  • Work in various weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Lift up to 70 lbs repeatedly and climb ladders.
  • Stand and walk for 8+ hours daily.
