Job summary

Select Genetics is hiring a Farm Maintenance technician to support day-to-day operations across our farms. You will troubleshoot and repair facilities and equipment, including electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, while ensuring adherence to policies and safety regulations.

The role requires strong problem-solving abilities, physical fitness to lift heavy objects, and flexibility to work long hours, including weekends.

Qualifications

• One year minimum of maintenance experience.

• Ability to adapt time and efforts to high priority areas, including on-call nights and weekends.
• Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs., push/pull up to 50 lbs., bend and squat.
• Able to walk and stand for long periods on concrete surfaces.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Does not operate poultry/foul/swine operations off duty.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair facilities including welding, electrical, ventilation, heating, plumbing, and hi-pressure systems.
• Adhere to company policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Work in a team-oriented environment.
• Maintain all facilities and equipment including work areas and company vehicle.
• Respond to work orders promptly and professionally.
• Inspect and upkeep facilities and equipment regularly.
• Repair or construct wooden structures as needed (including concrete pads).
• Transfer equipment between farms.
• Handle system failures across lighting, feeding, electrical, environmental, and heating systems.
• Maintain various equipment including security systems, generators, phones, engines, tractors, and wash crew equipment.
• Use tools such as bobcat, electric drill, wrenches, and screwdrivers.
• Report issues to maintenance supervisor.

Job description

Farm Maintenance is responsible for priority repairs and maintenance in a timely and efficient manner in our facilities. This individual will utilize their experience with electrical, motor controls, mechanical, welding, and plumbing to assist the Farm Maintenance team with day to day operations of our farms and ensure up-keep on our equipment. Farm Maintenance must be able to perform hands on maintenance. This position requires strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity working with farm equipment.

Farm Maintenance schedules and completes maintenance of our facilities and equipment.

Farm Maintenance carries out all directives following the Company’s policies and applicable laws, including scheduling, assigning and performing work. Farm Maintenance must have strong communication and collaborative skills, working extensively with team members.

Work requires frequent sitting, standing, walking and the use of numerous tools. Work is subject to tight deadlines and multitasking. Work includes long hours, including weekends.

The following conditions may apply:

• During summer months outside temperatures can be over 100 degrees for the entire scheduled workday.
• During winter months outside temperatures can be below zero for the entire scheduled workday.
• During and after heavy rains or snowfalls the road in and around the farms can become extremely muddy, snow - covered, icy and difficult to maneuver on.
• During different job duties the noise inside or outside farms can become very loud
• Will be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper procedures are not followed.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. Troubleshoot and repair facilities including welding, electrical, ventilation, heating, plumbing, and hi-pressure air and water.
2. Adhere to all company policies and procedures, business ethics codes, and all applicable federal and state regulations.
3. Work in a culture of strong employee teams.
4. Maintain all company facilities and equipment including work area and company vehicle utilized.
5. Respond to all work orders in a timely and professional manner.
6. Inspect and upkeep facilities and equipment on a routine basis.
7. Repair, replace and build wooden structures as needed. (Including pouring concrete pads)
8. Transfers equipment from farm to farm.
9. Takes care of any kind of system failures including lighting systems, feeding systems, electrical systems, environmental control systems and heating system failures.
10. Maintain and repair a variety of equipment including security systems, on sight generators, phones, small engines, tractors, the wash crew’s equipment and other farm machinery.
11. To be able to work with a variety of tools and equipment including, but not limited to a bobcat, electric drill, wrenches and screw drivers.
12. Report to the maintenance supervisor any issues with interior or exterior facilities, including climate control, damages, or pest infestation problems or mishandling of birds.

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

1. One year minimum of Maintenance experience.
2. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
3. Must have the ability to adapt time and efforts to high priority areas, including accommodating to various daily hours, on-call availability on nights and weekends on a rotating schedule.
4. Be able to lift in excess of 50 lbs., push/pull up to 50 lbs., bend and squat, grip small objects, and be capable of repeated actions.
5. Be able to walk and stand for long periods on different surfaces including concrete.
6. The work requires Farm Maintenance to have and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record.
7. Does not own or operate around backyard poultry, foul, or swine operations off duty.
8. Proven problem solving and change facilitation abilities.

The position may require Farm Maintenance to be available for an extended workday. To be successful in this position, the candidate must be energetic, flexible and have determination.

Successful completion of a drug screen, work achievement verification and a motor vehicle driving record check are required.
