South Valley Farm is seeking a results-oriented Area Manager (Central Functions) to oversee the intensive management of personnel, land, water, and machinery for the purpose of producing high yielding and quality crops, maximizing profits, and improving the integrity of resources for a large farming area within the assigned entity. A successful Area Manager continually identifies opportunities for improvement in all operational aspects and works closely with local leadership to ensure the assets of the company are being optimized and all production teams work together safely, efficiently, and effectively to achieve common goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all farm equipment maintenance, parts and asset inventories, and shop-related costs and services to ensure maximum productivity while minimizing downtime and expenditures.
  • Coordinate, develop and execute annual plans efficiently, timely, and in accordance with accounting budgeting cycle.
  • Set yield, quality, and budget goals for the farm and shop teams, meet or exceed the established crop yield and quality goals.
  • Train the team on how to maximize margins.
  • Effectively manage development goals for each direct report and supervise the same for all employees in stewardship.
  • Manage the overall cost per unit on the "Financial Report" to maximize returns.
  • Work in conjunction with the broader farm management team and support services to achieve local, division, and company-wide objectives.
  • Notify upper management of issues and/or variances, (including budget items), along with corrective recommendations immediately.
  • Ensure company assets are secured from loss or damage and keep the stewardship at a "Tour Ready" status.
  • Obtain an OSHA Frequency Rate at or below Industry average while striving for rates at half of industry standards.
  • Champion a world-class safety culture through on-going trainings, effective preventative maintenance programs, positive promotions, and ensuring compliance with Good Agricultural Practices and all regulatory agencies and local policies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Agribusiness or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years experience in farm production, farm facilities maintenance, and Ag equipment/fleet management, with 5+ years in a people-management role.
  • Understanding of tree crop requirements (water, fertilizer, etc.), production practices (spraying, mowing, etc.), and pests (weeds, diseases, etc.) preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of equipment (tractors, sprayers, mowers, etc.) utilized in crop production-safety, operation, and maintenance.
  • Valid in-state driver’s license.
  • PCA and CCA licensing preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills with competency in Microsoft tools and ability to learn other software/systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, and business partnership skills. Bilingual Spanish desired.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role which includes carrying and lifting up to 50lbs repetitively.
  • In addition to the regular farm schedule (55=60hrs/week), must be willing and able to work long hours during planting and harvest season and in outside weather conditions which includes inclement weather (heat, cold, rain, and high winds.)
