Job summary

Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School District seeks a Farm & Grounds Specialist to manage horticulture, grounds, equipment, and animal care on the Danvers campus. This twelve-month, 40-hour-per-week role combines outdoor work with building upkeep and seasonal farm operations.

The position requires CORI, SAFIS and SORI checks; MA Hoisting Engineer and MA Pesticide Applicator Licenses within probation; snow removal during inclement weather; and bilingual skills are preferred.

Job Description

Join our team as a Farm & Grounds Specialist and play a hands-on role in maintaining a vibrant school farm and campus. This position combines horticulture, landscaping, grounds maintenance, equipment operation, building maintenance, and animal care in a unique educational environment. Responsibilities include maintaining athletic fields and farm grounds, operating tractors and landscaping equipment, assisting with snow removal and facility repairs, caring for a variety of livestock, and supporting seasonal hay harvesting and farm operations. JOB DESCRIPTION
FARM AND GROUNDS SPECIALIST

FLSA Classification:

Non-exempt (Classified)

REPORTS TO:

Manager of Farm

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform all aspects of horticulture and grounds maintenance.
  • Determine appropriate maintenance operations related to the grounds.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the buildings on the campus.
  • Plant and remove trees, shrubs, flowers, and sod, as required.
  • Prepare area(s); install and repair walls, fences, irrigation systems, and related landscape features.
  • May be required to perform repairs to buildings and related structures, including carpentry, masonry, painting, and installation, and removal of construction material.
  • Perform general maintenance and repair of the farm buildings and the surrounding grounds under the direction of the Manager of Farm and Grounds.
  • Perform snow removal and salting operations, as required.
  • Operate tractors, hay balers, and landscape machinery in accordance with accepted safety practices.
  • Maintain athletic playing fields.
  • Communicate inventory and supply needs to the Manager of Farm and Grounds.
  • When assigned by the Manager of Farm and Grounds, provide supervision for community use of grounds and fields.
  • Responsible to feed and grain all livestock, including horses, on a twice-daily basis.
  • Assist in the general care of all animals on the farm, including sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, cows, donkeys, horses, birds, rodents, and reptiles.
  • Assist with the harvesting and stacking of hay bales each year.
  • Assist the farrier while onsite re-shoeing horses.
  • Keep barns, stables, and chicken coops in good order.
  • Administer medication to all animals, as needed.
  • Must maintain current Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer and Massachusetts Pesticide Commercial Applicator Licenses.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities not inconsistent with the role, as the Manager of Farm may assign.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • This position is a twelve-month position at 40 hours per week.
  • This position is part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees, Council 93, Local 245 and the School District.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $24.93 to $35.53 Per Hour
