Job summary

The City of New York Department of Education seeks a Family Worker to support outreach and services related to the special education evaluation process. The Family Worker will operate under the supervision of the School Psychologist and collaborate with school staff to engage families in multiple schools.

Responsibilities include making home contacts or visits, maintaining records of parent activity, and taking on administrative tasks such as planning dates and arrangements for parent meetings

Qualifications

• No high school diploma is required.
• Excellent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work with supervisors and other school-based staff.
• Demonstrated history of good human relations.
• Ability to efficiently carry out assignments.
• Knowledge of CSE procedures.

Responsibilities

• Handle outreach and support services associated with the special education evaluation process under direction of the School Psychologist.
• Makes home contacts or visits.
• May retain records related to parent activity.
• Assumes administrative responsibilities designated by the principal such as planning parent meetings and home visitation schedules.
