EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

FAMILY SUPPORT COACH – Obishikokaang Sagatay-Gamik

Summary:

Lac Seul First Nation is seeking a Family Support Coach to work under the supervision of the Director of Obishikokaang Sagatay-Gamik. The Family Support Coach will work closely with families to strengthen family structure and promote holistic wellness through education, life skills, and culturally informed programming. The role involves in-home visits, development of individualized plans, coordination of activities and workshops, and collaboration with family advocates and external partners to enhance support services for families.

Duties and responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Build strong, trusting, and professional relationships with families.
  • Identify family strengths and support the development of positive interactions.
  • Develop and implement personalized wellness plans with family input.
  • Assess family needs and the services they access to enhance their success and well-being.
  • Create a directory of programs and resources tailored to the family's identified needs.
  • Deliver workshops and sessions on topics such as personal development, parenting, anger management, budgeting, and life skills.
  • Guide age-appropriate chores, routines, and the importance of children's self-care.
  • Organize and promote activities that foster parent-child bonding.
  • Document all home visits and services provided to each family.
  • Maintain attendance records and confidentiality of personal and family information.
  • Collaborate with Family Advocates, the Director, and community service providers.
  • Coordinate in-home programming, including scheduling and goal setting.
  • Adhere to privacy guidelines and report concerns to the supervisor as needed.
  • Support referral processing and contribute to family plan documentation.
  • Plan events to bring together youth and promote interdepartmental partnerships.
  • Create promotional material and facilitate community education events.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Willing to travel, provide own transportation within the 3 communities and willing to work overtime, as may be required from time to time.
  • Must hold a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Must be able to take initiative and must be highly motivated.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education or training in a human services-related field is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Understanding of local family values and Ojibway culture is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to speak the local language is an asset.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must provide a clean criminal record check and current vulnerable sector check.
  • Experience developing and facilitating workshops.
  • Experience using community resources and support services.
  • Knowledge of child welfare systems, community agencies, and family wellness practices.
  • Ability to write reports and speak in public settings.
  • Must maintain high standards of ethics, discretion, and professionalism.

Location: Lac Seul First Nation, ON
Rate: Wages start at $28.46/hour *based on qualifications and experience.

Term:Full-Time
Hours: 35 hours per week
