Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a part-time Family Store Associate in Cadillac, MI to deliver friendly customer service and keep the store clean, organized and secure. You will operate the POS, balance cash, and assist customers with donations and purchases.

You will maintain displays, help with pricing, handle phones courteously, and support team members to meet sales and production rotation quotas. Previous retail experience is preferred; flexibility with schedule is essential.

Qualifications

• Flexible schedule availability required.
• Able to operate a cash register and perform routine calculations.
• Able to read and understand simple instructions and memos.
• Able to present information clearly in one-on-one customer interactions.
• Able to follow written or verbal instructions and diagrams.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers at the POS and operate the POS system.
• Operate cash register, accept payments, and make change.
• Balance cash drawer and assist with bank deposits as requested.
• Maintain sales and production rotation quotas.
• Price unmarked items and set up displays to promote sales.
• Keep shelves, counters, and tables clean and organized.
• Assist customers donating items and direct them appropriately.
• Answer phone calls professionally and maintain a welcoming store.
• Maintain neatness and security of the cash register area.

Position Summary: The Family Store Associate provides excellent customer service; operates and maintains a cash register; maintains the cleanliness, orderliness and security of the store.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Assist customers purchasing items via the Point of Sale (POS)POS system.
• Operates cash register, accepting payment and making change. Wraps or bags merchandise for customers.
• Prepare and balance the cash drawer; assists in preparing bank deposits as requested.
• Works to maintain sales and production rotation quotas.
• Price unmarked items of merchandise.
• Cleans shelves, counters or tables.
• Follows through on outdating as instructed.
• Helps set up displays and arranges merchandise to promote sales.
• Responsible to maintain good customer relations by giving prompt, courteous assistance to customers.
• Maintain the neatness and security of the cash register area
• Assist customers who are donating items
• Place and arrange items in the store as directed
• Answer the telephone in a professional and courteous manner
• Ensure that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• High School diploma or GED (desired), or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Experience working in a retail store preferred

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

• Must be available for a flexible schedule
• Ability to operate a cash register, perform routine mathematical computations, and count change
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situation to customers, clients, and other employees
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Computer Skills:

• Basic Computer operation knowledge
• Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office 365
• Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint

Certificates and Licenses:

• Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed

Part Time (25 hours per week)
