Job summary

Florida Department of Health seeks a Human Services Counselor I to deliver family-centered services in the Healthy Start program. You will establish trusting relationships, provide case management, and conduct face-to-face visits with pregnant women, infants, and families in clinics or homes.

The role emphasizes counseling, education on parenting, breastfeeding, and cessation, plus documenting in the Well Family System and linking families to community resources.

Qualifications

• Experience in Counseling techniques and strategies.
• Experience working with pregnant women and children.
• Problem solving skills related to advancing client self-sufficiency.
• Ability to work well with others as a team.
• Computer skills: competency and experience.
• Experience in interviewing and assessing to determine the needs of the client.
• Knowledge of community resources.

Responsibilities

• Establish a trusting relationship with culturally diverse families by initiating and maintaining regular client contact.
• Provide Case Management to pregnant women and infants referred to the Healthy Start Program.
• Provide face to face contact with clients either in the OB provider’s office or in the client’s residence.
• Provide Parenting Education one on one with clients.
• Provide Breastfeeding Education and Tobacco Cessation Education to individual clients.
• Document all client contact information in the Well Family System
• Provide referrals to community resources to supplement Healthy Start services.
