Job summary

Wayne Action Group for Economic Solvency, Inc. in North Carolina is seeking to implement and coordinate a comprehensive plan of parent involvement and education activities that respond to the ongoing and expressed needs of the children and parents in WAGES Head Start and Early Head Start.

The role focuses on facilitating parental engagement in school readiness, coordinating recruitment and training of volunteers, and supervising their activities to support families in securing needed resources

Qualifications

• B.A. in Social Work from an accredited college and university with at least 3 years of planning parent activities and working with low-income families.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and coordinate family involvement, parent engagement activities and volunteer services including recruitment, training and scheduling of parent volunteers.
• Plan, implement and coordinate with agency staff a full range of parent activities and advocacy opportunities that will enhance family life and promote family self-sufficiency beyond Head Start.
• Provide direct supervision, monitoring and support of the Family Social Workers in ERESA/HS/EHS CCP.
• Work collaboratively with all service areas to ensure family and parental engagement in all aspects of programming.
• Coordinate parent trainings and monthly center parent committee meetings.
• Assist in the compilation of data for the Community Assessment required in accordance with the Performance Standards.

Department: Children and Families | Reports To: Family Services/ERSEA Manager | Salary Range: $58,000-$68,000 annually

Function: To implement and coordinate a comprehensive plan of parent involvement and education activities that are responsive to the ongoing and expressed needs of the children and parents in WAGES Head Start
and Early Head Start and facilitate parental engagement in school readiness, coordinate the recruitment and training of volunteer and supervise their activities, coordinate activities within the community that enables families to become an active part of their community.

Qualifications: B.A. in Social Work from an accredited college and university with at least 3 years of planning parent activities and working with low-income families.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Plan, implement and coordinate family involvement, parent engagement activities and volunteer services including the recruitment, training and scheduling of parent volunteers.
• Plan, implement and coordinate with agency staff a full range of parent activities, advocacy opportunities and cultural development opportunities that will enhance the quality of life for families and promote family self-sufficiency beyond the Early Head Start and Head Start programs and increase parental engagement in school readiness; keep other staff apprise of parent issues.
• Provide direct supervision, monitoring and support of the Family Social Workers in ERESA/HS/EHS CCP.
• Work collaboratively with all service areas to ensure family and parental engagement in all aspects of programming.
• Collaborate and develop ongoing relationships with community organizations on behalf of families and to support families in securing resources on their own behalf.
• Plan and implement activities that support parents in becoming their child’s advocate as they transition from Head Start to the public schools or other educational settings; assist parents in addressing community needs.
• Promote parent participation in the decision-making processes; serve as a resource for Parent Committee meetings.
• Provide support and technical assistance to on-site education program.
• Recruit, train, and supervise individual group volunteers in the program.
• Provide training and support to WAGES Head Start and Early Head Start staff to ensure that the family involvement objective is an integral part of all programming.
• Assist with the preparation and distribution of the WAGES Head Start and Early Head Start Parent Handbook and Volunteer brochure annually.
• Prepare a monthly narrative and statistical report on family services activities.
• Maintain appropriate records, data, and surveys to enhance program planning.
• Prepare and maintain written reports that demonstrate compliance with Performance Standards, work plans, and local program requirements as requested.
• Assist in the compilation of data for the Community Assessment required in accordance with the Performance Standards.
• Coordinate parent trainings and monthly center parent committee meetings.
• Participate in an annual self-assessment.
• Work cooperatively with agency staff and the public to foster coordinated and integrated program operations.
• Work cooperatively in the development, implementation and evaluation of a transition plan.
• Participate in training and other activities relevant to the job.
• Support the WAGES philosophy and mission.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Family Services/ERSEA Manager.
