Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Northumberland County Children and Youth Services seeks a County Social Services Aide 2 to support families with hands-on guidance and education, working with a caring team to improve the well-being of children and parents.

Duties include Parent Education in centers and homes, leading group activities, preparing materials, keeping records, and connecting families to local services.

Qualifications

• One year as County Social Services Aide 1; or
• Graduation from high school, or its equivalency, and two years of experience in public contact work in a human services agency which included one year of experience in interviewing and obtaining information; or
• An associate's degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Responsibilities

• Provide parent education in both center locations and client homes
• Assist with planning and leading group activities for parents, adolescents, and children
• Prepare daily materials for skill building, therapy groups, and related activities
• Maintain accurate records that track client progress
• Refer parents to helpful community services as appropriate
• Supervise parent and child interactions and give guidance on communication methods
