Job summary

Ascendo Resources is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its Accounting and Finance department within a sophisticated family office. This senior, hands-on role operates at strategic and operational levels, overseeing day-to-day finance while addressing performance, forecasting, profitability, cash flow, risk, and strategic decisions.

The successful candidate will direct monthly closes, financial reporting, budgeting, and financial planning, with strong expertise in technical accounting,

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience with at least 5+ years in a Controller or leadership position.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
• CPA or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
• Experience within a family office, privately held organization, or professional services environment strongly preferred.
• Strong technical accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting expertise.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting.
• Prepare financial statements, management reporting, dashboards, and executive-level financial analysis.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Analyze revenue, profitability, expenses, utilization, and other key performance indicators.
• Manage cash flow forecasting, liquidity, and working capital.
• Oversee general ledger, AP, AR, billing, payroll accounting, reconciliations, and fixed assets.
• Monitor revenue recognition, project profitability, WIP, billing, collections, and accounts receivable.
• Develop financial models to support business planning and strategic initiatives.
• Establish and maintain strong accounting policies, internal controls, and financial governance.
• Coordinate external audits, tax reporting, and other regulatory requirements.
• Oversee financial, regulatory, contractual, and governance compliance.
• Identify financial and operational risks and recommend appropriate controls and mitigation strategies.
• Partner with the principal on growth initiatives, investments, systems implementations, and other strategic projects.

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience with at least 5+ years in a Controller or leadership position
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field
• CPA or equivalent professional qualification preferred
• Experience within a family office, privately held organization, or professional services environment strongly preferred
• Strong technical accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting expertise
• Experience with revenue recognition, project accounting, and profitability analysis
• Strong cash flow and working capital management experience
• Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems and financial reporting tools
• QuickBooks experience highly desirable; Power BI exposure is a plus
• Ability to translate complex financial information into clear business insights for senior stakeholders
• Exceptional attention to detail, judgment, discretion, and communication skills
