Job summary

The Cow Creek Band of The Umpqua Tribe of Indians seeks a Family Nurse Practitioner to deliver primary health care at the Nesika clinic, serving patients of all ages within a collaborative health team.

The role includes preventive care, management of acute and chronic diseases, patient education, referrals, and mentorship of NP students, while upholding HIPAA and confidentiality in a tribal health setting.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in nursing and NP certification in the specialty.
• One year of NP/provider experience in a health department setting.
• Oregon RN license and NP certification per ANA or NACOG, with Oregon NP license.
• Recertify NP credentials every three years.
• CPR certification and CLIA training are required.
• Knowledge of nursing standards and acute/chronic disease care.
• Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and privacy regulations.
• Ability to read, understand and apply program rules for state/federal/tribal aid.
• Good typing skills and familiarity with basic office procedures.
• Proven effective interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Delivers primary care to clients of all ages with treatment plans.

• Prescribe and dispense medications; adjust therapies as needed.

• Collaborate with health center team; mentor NP students.
• Assist others in managing client care; ensure HIPAA compliance.

Job description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The function of the Family Nurse Practitioner is to provide primary health care services to individuals of all ages as a member of a health team assigned to the health clinic.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Delivers direct primary care to clients of all ages developing therapeutic plans of care for prevention, management, and maintenance of optimum health for individuals.
• Assess, diagnoses, treats, manages, evaluates, and monitors acute and chronic illnesses, administers prevention services, prenatal/postnatal services, family planning, and counsels psychologically challenged individuals.
• Orders, performs, interprets, evaluates, and reviews diagnostic studies and procedures.
• Prescribes and dispenses pharmaceuticals, evaluates outcomes, and dictates changes in management levels of therapeutics.
• Performs minor surgeries and procedures:
• Provides health education and counseling to those clients seeking family planning services promoting positive health behaviors and self-care skills.
• Makes referrals to health care professionals, specialists, other clinics, and community agencies.
• Maintains client electronic records in a systematic format.
• Serves as a consultant and collaborator to/with the health center team, clients.
• Participates as a preceptor and role model for Nurse Practitioner students.
• Assists/instructs other health care employees in the management of client care.
• Ensures that client records are kept confidential consistent with the Health Department policies and procedures and HIPAA standards. Monitors HIPAA compliance within the work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possession of a Master’s Degree in Nursing and relevant Nurse Practitioner training/certification in the specialty area for the position held.
• One year of Nurse Practitioner/Provider experience similar to the job responsibilities of a Nurse Practitioner/Provider within the Health Department.
• Possession of a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Oregon. Certification of a nurse practitioner in area of specialty by the ANA or NACOG and possession of a license issued by the State of Oregon as a Nurse Practitioner.
• Maintain re-certification every three years.
• CPR certification, CLIA training
• Knowledge of professional nursing standards, theories, and abilities, procedures and techniques used in acute and chronic disease care and education and have the ability to implement these within a clinical setting.
• Candidate must have the ability to maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and Privacy Act regulations.
• Proven ability to read, understand and apply program rules and regulations for State, Federal and Tribal assistance programs.
• Have good typing skills and be familiar with basic office procedures.
• Must demonstrate proven effective interpersonal communication skills.
