Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, business, finance, human services, or related field with 2+ years of experience.
  • Alternate: Associate’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and database software.
  • Experience serving low- to moderate-income populations preferred.

Job description

Primary Function

The Financial Coach supports Communities First, Inc.'s mission by coaching individuals and families to build financial resilience. Through customized coaching sessions and workshops, the coach focuses on improving financial literacy, budgeting, debt reduction, and family-based savings strategies. Unlike traditional financial advisors, financial coaches concentrate on building foundational money management skills and healthy financial habits to support long‑term stability.

Essential Functions
  • Build trusting relationships with clients using a strength-based, non-judgmental coaching approach.
  • Assess each client’s financial situation and collaboratively develop individualized action plans.
  • Develop and implement family-centered savings plans for goals such as homeownership, retirement, emergency funds, and education.
  • Help clients assess their current financial status and create realistic, step-by-step savings strategies based on lifestyle and goals.
  • Provide tools and resources to help families reduce spending, prioritize needs, and improve cash flow.
  • Deliver group financial education workshops on topics such as budgeting, credit, savings, and loans.
  • Teach clients how to build positive financial behaviors, including regular saving, emergency fund creation, and intentional budgeting.
  • Support clients in building financial confidence and literacy, helping them make informed decisions and reduce reliance on credit or high‑interest products.
  • Monitor client progress and maintain accurate, up-to-date records of services and outcomes.
  • Develop partnerships with internal staff and external organizations to refer clients to relevant services.
  • Offer consistent accountability check‑ins and motivational support to maintain progress toward savings goals.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all privacy policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Track metrics and outcomes to report to leadership and funding partners as needed.
  • Stay informed on current trends in personal finance, coaching methodologies, and community resources.
  • Other appropriate duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, Business, Finance, Human Services, or related field, and 2+ years of relevant experience; OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and database software
  • Experience working with low- to moderate-income populations preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a nonprofit or community-based setting
Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires regular sitting, standing, and walking. Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds) may be needed. Work is typically performed in an office or community setting with occasional off‑site visits.
