Job Description:


As our Family Ministries Coordinator, you will support families in our community who are seeking assistance for physical needs, personal growth opportunities, and spiritual direction in an effort to fulfill the mission of The Salvation Army.


What You Will Do:



  • In collaboration with Johnson County Case Manager, provide initial intake to determine needs of families seeking physical assistance when appropriate

  • Complete comprehensive assessments and action plans with clients.

  • Manage small case load of clients, in collaboration with Johnson County Case Manager

  • Promote the opportunity for families to participate in Pathway of Hope (POH)

  • Develop and maintain relationships with community collaborators and agencies

  • Coordinate and/or facilitate life skill courses utilizing Bible-based curriculum for financial management, parenting skills, focused group Bible study, and youth development opportunities (character building, SA Gaming ministries, etc.)

  • Utilize staff teammates (and vice versa) to ensure holistic care is available for all participants at the Johnson County Outpost

  • Provide encouragement and advice to clients from a Biblical worldview perspective

  • Provide prayer for clients for those who are willing to accept it, encouraging clients to seek the Lord to intervene their situation through prayer

  • Complete all required documentation in an accurate, timely manner using SIMS - Salvation Army Information Management System

  • Maintain and submit accurate monthly statistics, financial records and reports per The Salvation Army and other funding requirements

  • Maintain files in accordance with The Salvation Army guidelines

  • Pick up donations as needed

  • Maintain an up-to-date log of all in-kind donations

  • Complete ongoing trainings as they arise

  • Spearhead innovative opportunities to better serve our clientele

  • Be actively involved in all Christmas efforts, including the Angel Tree / Toy Shop Program and Christmas food box distribution

  • Assist in events and seasonal activities of the corps as requested

  • Assist in monitoring community population for changes in demographics, interests and needs as it relates to outpost program growth and sustainability.

  • All other duties as assigned by leadership


Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.


Education: Bachelor's degree in ministry, social work, psychology or related field is strongly preferred.


Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed


Experience: At least two years of experience social work or related field; experience in ministry leadership.


Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Must complete Salvation Army Caseworker Certification Program within 120 days of employment.


Skills/Abilities:



  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele

  • Basic knowledge of Spanish is helpful

  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds


Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises volunteers

Physical Requirements Include:



  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity

  • Lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds

  • May require bending, squatting, walking

  • May require standing for extended periods


Travel: There are some travel expectations (i.e., picking up food pantry donations) with The Salvation Army vehicles


Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment; may require some weekend and evening work
