Overview

The Associate Medical Director (AMD) is a member of the clinical leadership team responsible for developing infrastructure and managing performance on population health and medical management initiatives in the San Jose region. They will maintain and establish a network of high-quality providers, develop clinician compensation structures in partnership with operational leadership, support hiring and performance management of clinicians, and oversee community physician leaders.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversee risk adjustment, quality metrics, utilization management, patient satisfaction, and inpatient metrics for both IPA clinicians and employed/group clinicians within the value-based care model.
  • Serve as liaison for communication with physicians, hospitals, and other providers in the community.
  • Participate in committees such as quality improvement, peer review, specialty networks, contracting, and credentialing.
  • Support affordability strategies, inpatient management, high-risk member management, and site-of-service strategies for specialists.
  • Assist in recruiting employed physicians and other specialty services to serve the region.
  • Collaborate with local site leadership on clinical concerns and clinician quality issues.
  • Meet with clinicians to support the IPA and employed clinicians, providing data to identify opportunities and improve performance.
  • Identify, implement, and monitor process improvements tailored to regional needs.
  • Oversee local site physician leaders for the IPA and employed/group sites.
  • Work with operations partners to achieve goals related to quality, risk, affordability, and access.

Required Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of outpatient clinic experience
  • Unrestricted CA medical license
  • Board certification in IM or FM
  • Willingness to learn risk adjustment, quality, utilization management, and related areas
  • Strong communication skills
  • Collaborative leadership qualities
  • Ability to commute within San Jose/Santa Clara County and occasionally to other California regions
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-3 years leadership experience
  • Presentation skills
