Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

At CHA, you'll have the opportunity to provide high-quality, comprehensive primary care while making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families throughout our community. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we are committed to increasing access to healthcare and improving health outcomes for patients of all ages and backgrounds.

CHA operates six conveniently located clinics throughout the Reno/Sparks community, offering an integrated range of services designed to meet the diverse needs of our patients. Our services include comprehensive primary care, preventive and screening services, chronic disease management, pharmacy services, pediatric dental care, behavioral health, community outreach, and services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. CHA also operates a Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program and provides health education and outreach to underserved populations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive assessments, including medical history and physical exams, to diagnose a variety of acute and chronic mental health conditions.

2. Treatment Planning and Management: Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans for patients, including prescribing medications and therapies as appropriate, and adjusting treatments based on patient progress and feedback.

3. Patient Education and Counseling: Provide education and counseling to patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medication management, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care to promote optimal mental health.

4. Care Coordination: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals within the Care Team, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and other specialists, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients.

5. Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions, diagnoses, treatment plans, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR) system, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards.

6. Productivity Standards: Meet the productivity standards as set forth in the employment agreement, including patient volume and quality care metrics.

7. Continuing Education and Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development, including attending relevant trainings, workshops, and continuing education to maintain licensure and stay current with best practices in psychiatric care.

8. Patient Advocacy: Advocate for the needs and preferences of patients within the healthcare system, ensuring that care is patient-centered and culturally competent.

9. Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention services as needed, including assessing risk, developing safety plans, and coordinating with emergency services or other support systems when necessary.

10. Quality Improvement: Engage in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the care delivery process, patient outcomes, and overall efficiency within the practice.

11. Supervision/Collaboration: As an essential function of the position, the Physician may be assigned to supervise, collaborate with, or otherwise provide required clinical oversight for up to three (3) advanced practice providers at any one time. Advanced practice providers may include physician assistants, nurse practitioners, or other licensed clinicians for whom physician involvement is required or appropriate.

Responsibilities may include reviewing clinical care and documentation, conducting consultations, providing timely availability for clinical questions, completing required chart reviews, participating in quality-assurance activities, and executing supervision or collaboration agreements and other documentation required by law or organizational policy.

All supervisory and collaborative duties will be performed in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, licensing-board requirements, payer requirements, medical-staff bylaws, the Physician's credentials and privileges, and the education, experience, and authorized scope of practice of each provider.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of Family Medicine and comprehensive primary care.

• Knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of acute and chronic diseases and injuries.

• Knowledge of preventive medicine, health promotion, and chronic disease management.

• Knowledge of applicable CPT and ICD-10-CM coding practices.

• Knowledge of and ability to appropriately assess and manage medical and surgical emergencies.

• Ability to provide safe, effective, evidence-based medical care within the physician's professional scope of practice.

• Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary Care Team and Patient-Centered Medical Home environment.

• Ability to manage an assigned patient panel and support continuity of care.

• Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment, evaluate complex situations, and make appropriate clinical decisions.

• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.

• Ability to provide care in a culturally responsive and respectful manner to patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, languages, and life circumstances.

• Ability to communicate with patients directly or effectively utilize interpreter services when appropriate.

• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient medical, financial, and personal information.

• Ability to accurately calculate and administer medication doses and perform physical examinations.

• Ability to use electronic health records, computers, email, and other technology required in a modern healthcare environment.

• Ability to operate or appropriately utilize medical equipment, including EKG machines, pulse oximeters, nebulizers, spirometers, audiology equipment, sterilizers, and other equipment relevant to the practice setting.

• Ability to work collaboratively and positively with staff throughout CHA.

• Ability to solve practical problems, prioritize clinical needs, and respond appropriately to changing circumstances.

• Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with reasonable accommodation as appropriate.

Education, Licensure & Experience

Required:

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.

• Board certification in Family Medicine or another appropriate primary care specialty.

• Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Nevada.

• Current DEA registration, as applicable to the position.

• Ability to meet all applicable credentialing and privileging requirements.

Preferred:

• Experience practicing in a community health center, FQHC, rural health setting, or other safety-net healthcare environment.

• Experience working within a Patient-Centered Medical Home, Care Team, or integrated care model.

• Experience providing care to medically underserved or diverse patient populations.

• Spanish language proficiency is helpful but not required.
