Job summary

Homes for the Homeless invites a dedicated Family Engagement Assistant to join our Families with Children program at Soundview, Bronx. You will plan and run activities, engage children and families, and connect them with community resources.

You will work in a warm, trauma-informed shelter environment, fostering safety, inclusion, and positive development for children and their caregivers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• Experience working with children, families, or vulnerable populations.
• Knowledge of child development and engaging children in activities.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and family-centered practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management.
• Bilingual in Spanish or another language is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and facilitate family engagement activities.
• Build positive relationships with families and children in the shelter.
• Support parents in strengthening parenting skills and connect them with resources.
• Foster a safe, inclusive, trauma-informed environment.
• Assist families in accessing community resources.
• Supervise children's participation to ensure safety.
• Maintain attendance and program records per agency policy.
• Prepare activity materials and maintain supplies.
• Collaborate with shelter staff and partners to coordinate services.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
