Job summary

City of Alexandria – Department of Community and Human Services is seeking a Family Services Specialist II/III to provide intensive, culturally competent social work services to individuals and families in core program areas such as Child Protective Services, Foster Care, and Adoptions.

The role emphasizes interviewing, assessment, planning, and collaboration with community partners to promote child safety, stability, permanency, and family connections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field with related experience.
• Knowledge of social work principles and practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speech.
• Experience with interviewing, assessing needs, counseling, and referring clients.

Responsibilities

• Interview/investigate cases involving abuse/neglect.
• Collaborate with community service providers.
• Prepare participants for Family Engagement Meetings (FPMs) and Family Group Conferences (FGCs).
• Apply clinical and strength-based interventions to promote safety and permanency.
• Utilize culturally competent interviewing and assessment skills.
• Document case contacts and plans in OASIS and participate in program evaluations.
