FAMILY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR – Focus on Equity & Inclusion in Education!

Our client is a Portland-based non-profit organization who aims to deliver excellent, equitable education to underserved children, their families, and their communities. Their mission is to eliminate prolific racial achievement and opportunity gaps by developing confident, creative, compassionate students through their charter school and programs. They are looking to bring on a dedicated Family Engagement Coordinator to join their team. This position entails a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing family involvement, supporting school culture goals, and ensuring comprehensive support for families with the highest needs. The coordinator will work closely with school staff, families, community partners, and volunteers to create an inclusive and engaging environment for all stakeholders.

Location: Fully Onsite – Portland, Oregon

Responsibilities of the Family Engagement Coordinator:

  • Greet families during drop-off and pick-up times.
  • Conduct culturally specific outreach to support families with the highest needs. Coordinate family involvement in programs, events, and family conferences, ensuring effective communication and participation.
  • Regularly communicate with staff regarding the ideas, needs, and concerns of families, particularly those with the highest needs.
  • Maintain and enhance systems that support students (future leaders) and families in achieving school culture goals.
  • Develop systems for prioritizing tasks (immediate, short-term, long-term) and tracking family information (attendance, demographics, etc.).
  • Track ongoing communications with families, teachers, and partners, including data on family types, communication preferences, and geographic regions.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with partners, staff, and community organizations.
  • Represent the organization at community partner meetings and external events where students are involved, or an organizational presence is needed.
  • Assist with managing grants and contracts related to family programming.
  • Support the development of an alumni network to maintain ongoing engagement with alumni through volunteer opportunities.
  • Manage and track volunteer (Ambassador) recruitment, including their registration, background checks, training, and record-keeping. Ensure ambassadors receive orientation and are well-prepared for their roles and track their in-kind donations and volunteer hours.
  • Coordinate internal staff events, including off-sites, celebrations, care packages, and team engagement activities to enhance organizational culture.
  • Attend staff and family events and participate in professional development activities to support the growth of students, staff, and the organization.
  • Engage in continuous improvement practices, including observations, reflections, and collaborations.

Requirements of the Family Engagement Coordinator:

  • Approximately 3+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Approximately 2+ years of fundraising/development experience (paid or unpaid).
  • BA Preferred.
  • Hands-on experience engaging and collaborating with families and communities.
  • Experience managing data entry and report generation with a CRM or donor database system.
  • Strong communications skills with internal staff, external corporate partners, donors, funders, volunteers, and vendors.
  • Agility to work across multiple, simultaneous projects and meet deadlines with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity, changing work priorities and deadlines, and a willingness to take on responsibilities and to prioritize work on multiple projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to culturally relevant practices.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, specifically people of color.
