Job description

Are you passionate about communication and engagement?Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of learning disabled adults?A flair for building positive relationships and a heart for advocacy?

Join us at Hft as our new Family Communications and Liaison Officer.

Our charity was proudly established in 1962, by a group of visionary parents who wanted a better life for their children. At that time, opportunities for learning disabled people were severely limited.

Since we were founded, some things have changed significantly, while others – like our relentless determination to provide support for learning disabled adults – have stayed the same. And our relationship with families and carers of those we support is key. We're looking for a dynamic communicator who can help ensure families and carers are informed, engaged, and supported throughout their journey with us.

Today, we’re creating a future where learning disabled people and their families can live the best life possible, in a kind and inclusive community. Join us on our mission to change the lives of learning disabled people for the better.

About the Role:

As our Family Communications and Liaison Officer, you'll be the bridge between our organisation and the families of the people we support. You’ll develop and manage national family communications, contribute to change programmes, and make sure that families’ voices are heard and valued.

You will:

  • Develop and deliver engaging communications for families, through newsletters, web content, letters, emails and face to face sessions
  • Support organisational change initiatives by keeping families informed and involved.
  • Plan and manage family events, surveys, and consultation sessions.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and project teams to ensure family-facing communications are consistent, timely, and supportive.
  • Maintain and manage family data in our CRM system, ensuring GDPR compliance.
  • Contribute to external awareness and knowledge sharing through case studies and resource development.

About You:

We're looking for someone who is:

  • A strong communicator, both in writing and face-to-face.
  • Experienced in stakeholder engagement, ideally within social care, healthcare, or a charity setting.
  • Skilled in creating communications for diverse audiences across various platforms.
  • Empathetic, organised, and confident managing sensitive information and complex issues.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively across departments.
  • You’ll ideally have knowledge of the statutory frameworks affecting families and carers, and be familiar with tools like WordPress, Microsoft 365, and CRM databases.

Why Join Hft?

  • Make a meaningful impact supporting learning disabled adults and their families and carers.
  • Be part of a passionate and visionary marketing and communications team.
  • Enjoy flexible, home-based working with travel opportunities.
  • Join an organisation that truly values kindness, diversity, and positive change.

We offer:

  • Annual Leave: 33 days (including 8 days statutory bank holidays).
  • Wagestream: Allows you to flexibly access your pay throughout the month and utilise a range of financial support, through its dedicated app.
  • Aviva Digicare + workplace: Access to wellbeing services including health checks, Digital GP and mental health support.
  • TELUS health: A 24/service, completely confidential counselling and support platform and helpline that is free for all colleagues to use.
  • Discounted mobile phone contracts. As an Hft employee, you’ll be able to take advantage of Vodafone’s Employee Advantage programme, giving you up to 30% off.
  • Care Friends: Employee referral app – earn money for referring your friends to work for Hft.
  • Free life assurance – 3 x your annual salary

If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you, apply today, we’d love to hear from you.
