Job summary

St. Charles Health System is seeking a Medical Assistant to manage daily patient flow for assigned physicians.

The role uses triage skills to collect information for health assessments and supports physicians' needs during patient visits. Responsibilities include escorting patients, recording medical data, assisting with calls from patients and providers, performing routine procedures (excluding IV meds), maintaining equipment and supply levels, and upholding HIPAA and confidentiality standards

Qualifications

• Requires basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures.
• Working knowledge of medical practice management information systems.
• Basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards.
• Must maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare for physician assessment.
• Record and maintain patient's medical data in the chart.
• Assist physician with phone requests from patients and other medical professionals.
• Perform ancillary and/or surgical procedures per physician request (excluding IV medications).
• Maintain equipment and supply inventory levels.

• Deliver care and service in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
• May perform additional duties of similar complexity as required.

Job description

The Medical Assistant is responsible for daily patient flow for each respective physician for whom they work. They must use triage skills to gather information from which designated staff can make appropriate patient health assessments and to anticipate physician's needs as they relate to the patients' medical care.

This position does not manage any other caregivers.

Essential Functions And Duties

• Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepares for physician assessment.
• Records and maintains patient's medical data in patient's medical chart.
• Assists physician with answering phone requests from patients and/or other medical professionals and institutions.
• Performs a variety of physician-requested ancillary and/or surgical patient procedures. (This excludes the administration of IV medication.)
• Maintains equipment, instruments supply inventory levels.
• Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.
• Supports Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
• Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
• Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Education

• Required: High school diploma or GED.
• Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

• Required: Current MA Certification from one of the following: The American Medical Technology Association (AMT), The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), The National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certification, National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or current Oregon licensure as an intermediate or paramedic level EMT, LPN, RN, or Athletic Trainer.
• AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
• Preferred: NA

Experience

• Required: Must have basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures. Working knowledge of medical practice management information systems. Basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and meet all HIPAA requirements.
• Those candidates with NHA certification that qualified due to work experience rather than graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting Program will be required to have one (1) year of experience in Medical Assisting.
• Preferred: Two (2) years of Medical Assisting experience.
