Responsibilities

  • Clean vehicle interiors and exteriors; ensure clear visibility.
  • Ensure use of seat belts, booster seats, or car seats.
  • Assist with loading/unloading students as needed.
  • Interact professionally with students; maintain safety and comfort.
  • Complete documents and reports including misconduct, accidents, mileage, inspections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Operate a school vehicle within an established time schedule; transport students to and from school in a safe manner.

Qualifications
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • One (1) year driving experience and a clean driving record.
  • State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Successfully pass physical agility test and District certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, CPR and First Aid.
Essential Functions

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive District vehicles, excluding school buses, to transport homeless and special needs students on non-scheduled routes and irregular schedules, between District schools and shelter or home locations.
  • Inspect vehicle to ensure it is safe to operate; report any issues to mechanical staff.
  • Clean inside and outside of vehicle; clean windows to ensure clear visibility.
  • Transport students in a safe manner. Ensuring the proper use of seat belts, booster seats, or car seats.
  • Assist with loading and unloading students as needed.
  • Interact with students in a professional manner; maintain order; ensure the safety and comforts of students.
  • Complete various documents and reports to include misconduct forms, accident and injury reports, mileage reports, inspection forms, Medicaid documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and techniques, and motor vehicle laws
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR procedures and other emergency procedures
  • Knowledge of safety and maintenance requirements of vehicle and other student transportation equipment
  • Knowledge in the safety practices and procedures for emergencies
  • Knowledge of District and department procedures and policies and the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 2002
  • Knowledge of local and metropolitan areas
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Skill in in communicating clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Skill in reading maps
  • Ability to pass Department of Transportation Annual and Random drug screens and Alcohol testing
  • Ability to work with and manage children with physical impairments, limited abilities and in emotional situations
