Job summary

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is seeking a Fall Weekend Program Specialist to support our Connecticut weekend operations, based in Ashford, CT. This onsite role requires active engagement with campers and volunteers across program areas, with a focus on safety and community inclusion.

You will participate in orientation, lead diverse activities—from archery to arts and crafts—and help run evening programs while ensuring smooth logistics and a welcoming environment for families and participants.

Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be physically and mentally capable of caring for Campers.
  • Be familiar with and enforce all safety, emergency, and Camp policies.
  • Serve as a role model and support Camp’s weekend program and family pals.
  • Commit to fostering a community that celebrates our Camp values: inclusion, gratitude, possibility, friendship, and safety.
  • Be flexible with the changing needs of the program areas and evening activities.
  • The ability to work with a diverse community in a multicultural environment.
  • Perform other duties as Camp leadership deems necessary.
  • Comply with and remain flexible with COVID-19-specific precautions and requirements throughout the program, as outlined/advised by the CDC and the Hole in the Wall Medical Team.
  • All positions are residential and are hired for at least 5 out of 7 weekends spanning our fall weekend programming duration.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in required on-site orientation weekend program team training before the start of the fall weekend season.
  • Facilitate dynamic program areas such as fishing, archery, cooking, arts and crafts, woodshop, tower, adolescent and young adult programming, and more.
  • Serve as a consistent and experienced presence, assisting other volunteers and program team members.
  • Lead evening programs like opening campfire, stage night, teen programming, etc.
  • Aid in program logistics, including drives to support the transportation of volunteers and Camp families.
  • Help create and foster an environment that promotes inclusivity, safety, and participation.
  • Work effectively both individually and as part of a team.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of assigned program areas.
  • Prepare program areas before scheduled activity times.
  • Prompt attendance at all scheduled activities.
  • Assist in opening and closing weekend procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator and Program Team Associate to maintain program area inventory and order program supplies.
  • Communicate with the Program Coordinator and Program Team Associate about program needs, development, and weather plans.
  • Be flexible in planning and scheduling.
  • Provide consistent engagement with participants throughout each weekend.
  • Communicate relevant observations of participant experiences to the Program Coordinator or Program Team Associate.
  • Prepare to lead and organize various creative games and activities for rainy days and downtime.

Weekend Program Specialists are essential leaders on our Weekend Program Team, ensuring consistent support and smooth operations across all program areas. Through extensive cross-training, they bring a deep understanding of camp culture, evening programs, and logistics. Their leadership and expertise significantly enrich the experience for our campers and their families, making each weekend memorable and impactful.
