Job summary

The School District of the Chathams is seeking a dedicated Head Sailing Coach for the Fall season at Chatham High School. This seasonal role leads the sailing program, develops athletes, and fosters sportsmanship while ensuring safe practices during on-water sessions and competitions.

Responsibilities include designing a progressive curriculum, organizing practices, coaching during meets, monitoring progress, coordinating with the athletic department, and maintaining equipment and safety

Qualifications

• Must have NJ Teaching Credential or NJ Substitute Credential.
• Coaching experience in sailing or related sport at high school or collegiate level.
• Strong knowledge of sailing techniques, rules and safety practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate student-athletes.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.

Summary

Chatham High School is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to lead our sailing program as the Head Sailing Coach for the Fall season. This seasonal position requires a passionate coach who can inspire and develop student‑athletes in the sport of sailing, fostering both skill development and team spirit. The Head Sailing Coach will be responsible for creating a positive and competitive environment, promoting sportsmanship, and ensuring the safety of all participants during practices and competitions.

• Organize and conduct daily practices, ensuring they are engaging, educational, and safe.

• Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

• Ensure all safety protocols are followed and that all equipment is properly maintained.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team activities and expectations.
• Organize team meetings and events to promote camaraderie and team building.
• Stay current with sailing techniques, rules, and safety regulations to ensure compliance with best practices.

Requirements

• NJ Teaching Credential or NJ Substitute Credential
• Previous coaching experience in sailing or a related sport, preferably at the high school or collegiate level.
• Strong knowledge of sailing techniques, rules, and safety practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire student‑athletes.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate practice and competition schedules.
• Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• A passion for sailing and a commitment to developing young athletes both on and off the water.
• Must pass a background check in accordance with school district policies.

Salary: $6,867.25 per season

This is not a benefits eligible position.
