DREAM Charter High School is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Assistant Coach to support its high school athletics program. The role ensures safe, well-structured practices and positive experiences for student-athletes under the supervision of the High School Athletics Manager and Head Coach.

Starting Aug 24 through Nov 30, this part-time position offers a 6-hour weekly schedule with early mornings, late afternoons, and occasional Saturday sessions, with room for growth.

Qualifications

• 1–2+ years of coaching or youth program experience preferred.
• Experience working with school-age children is required.
• Understanding of the sport’s rules and fundamentals is required.
• Ability to support youth development and behavior management.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• CPR/First Aid certification is a plus.
• Strong alignment with DREAM’s mission and values.

Position

DREAM is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Assistant Coach to support the execution of our high school athletics program. The Assistant Coach ensures consistent supervision, strong practice implementation, and a positive, structured experience for all athletes. Coaches are key members of the Athletics team and help ensure the ongoing excellence and growth of DREAM’s Athletics programs.

This role reports to the High School Athletics Manager and works under the Head Coach.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of structured, high-quality practices with consistency and attention to detail
• Execute drills and activities with clarity, urgency, and strong athlete engagement
• Reinforce team expectations for behavior, effort, and accountability
• Reinforce key youth development competencies: Teamwork, Sportsmanship, Self-regulation
• Support athletes in managing emotions, responding to adversity, and meeting team expectations
• Model professionalism and uphold team standards
• Maintain active supervision at all times (constant scanning, proximity, engagement)
• Support safe arrival, transitions, and dismissal procedures
• Follow all safety protocols consistently and without exception
• Immediately communicate safety concerns to the Head Coach
• Accurately support attendance tracking for all practices and games
• Communicate promptly with the Head Coach regarding any concerns or updates
• Follow internal protocols related to student eligibility, behavior, and participation
• Maintain alignment with coaching staff and program expectations
• Support recruitment and engagement of athletes
• Assist with game-day logistics and team management
• Execute responsibilities with reliability, consistency, and attention to detail

• Demonstrate consistent, reliable attendance and punctuality
• Follow the direction from the Head Coach and Athletics leadership
• Adhere to all safety, communication, and organizational protocols
• Maintain professionalism and sound judgment

Qualifications

Commitment

• Start date: August 24
• End date: November 30
• Days & hours: Practice times are dependent on space. Leadership will confirm the schedule. Typical practice 6 hours per week; windows 6-8am, 4-8pm on weekdays, 1-7pm Fridays, and/or Saturday mornings.

DREAM is hiring coaches for our DREAM Charter High School Location:

• DREAM Charter High School: 20 Bruckner Blvd, Bronx, NY
• Practices take place at the school, or in surrounding areas in East Harlem or the South Bronx. Game locations vary

Compensation

The rate for incoming Assistant Coaches is $30 per hour. For those also DREAM full-time staff, a $3000 per season stipend. Coaches are eligible for annual increases per DREAM’s practices.
