Job description

POSITION TITLE: Faith Formation Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Director of Family and Adult Faith Formation
SUPERVISES: Volunteers/catechists
FLSA STATUS: Hourly, Non-Exempt
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time

St. Francis de Sales Church, a vibrant multicultural parish in downtown Holland, Michigan, is seeking a part-time faith formation coordinator to assist the director of family and adult faith formation in the execution of the parish’s Faith Formation programs, including weekly middle school and high school sessions, twice-monthly family faith formation classes and family-based sacrament preparation sessions. Additionally, the individual will assist the director of family and adult faith formation in the management of the parish’s confirmation preparation program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate our Family of Faith Formation Sessions:

  • Become proficient in the textbooks and resources used in our classes and be knowledgeable in other supplementary materials available to catechists. Assist in adapting curriculum as needed for a family faith formation setting.
  • Empower and equip volunteer catechists through recruitment, training, and ongoing support.
  • Support parents in their role as primary catechists in their family, both in providing resources to build the domestic church and assisting in parent formation.

Support sacramental preparation programs:

  • Assist in the coordination of sacramental preparation programs for first reconciliation, first Eucharist, and confirmation.

Celebrate faith through events:

  • Assist with the coordination of transformative events, including retreats, workshops, and sacramental celebrations.

Collaborate for impact:

  • Collaborate with the coordinator of communications to promote programs and events via the parish bulletin, social media, and the parish website.
  • Participate as available in staff meetings, deanery events, and diocesan initiatives to ensure excellence in ministry.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Active and confirmed practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church and who leads an authentic Catholic lifestyle and cultivates a strong prayer life and has knowledge of Catholic Teaching (Catechism of the Catholic Church), and Church documents.
  • Diocesan Certification in Catechesis, a basic understanding of Catholic Beliefs, liturgy, and Church sacramental policies OR a willingness to obtain Diocesan Certification in Catechesis.
  • Teaching experience in faith formation/catechesis.
  • Excellent communication skills needed for working face to face with parents, phone calls and emails.
  • Familiarity with technology including Microsoft Office, database management, and social media platforms and a willingness to learn technology is essential to the job.
  • Completion of Safe Environment training, which includes a current criminal background check.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED

  • The ideal candidate has a cultural awareness of both the English and Spanish-speaking communities and has bilingual fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish.
  • Experience in program planning and volunteer management.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Flexibility: Availability for evening and weekend programs as needed.
  • Physical Activity: Ability to lift materials (up to 25 pounds) and stay active during events.
