Job summary

Intervala is seeking a Failure Analysis Test Technician to evaluate returned products, replicate reported failures, and perform diagnostics to identify root causes. You will support Quality, Engineering, and Customer Support with data-driven analysis and comprehensive reports.

The role involves executing test procedures, stressing devices, and documenting results to drive corrective actions and continuous improvement in a high-volume electronics environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or associate degree in electronics preferred.
  • Associate degree in electronics, engineering technology, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with electrical/mechanical diagnostics and test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Execute standardized test procedures to reproduce customer-reported issues.
  • Perform stress testing and extended evaluations to detect intermittent or hard-to-reproduce failures.
  • Determine technical accuracy, operation, and proper sequencing of test procedures.
  • Provide technical reports consisting of relevant test procedures and results.
  • Conduct component-level inspection and testing to isolate defective parts or systems.
  • Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions at the component and subassembly level for most customers and their products.
  • Perform basic functional testing and diagnostics using multimeters, oscilloscopes, automated test equipment, and other tools, including voltage measurements.
  • Document test results, rework actions, and quality findings and maintain accurate records of tests and repairs.
  • Prepare detailed failure analysis reports that include root cause, supporting data, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Provide timely feedback to Quality, Engineering, Production, and Customer Support teams.
  • Support Quality Engineering in root cause investigations, CAPA activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Summary & Essential Functions

The Failure Analysis Test Technician is responsible for evaluating returned products, reproducing reported failures, and performing detailed diagnostics to determine root cause and failure modes. This role supports Quality, Engineering, and Customer Support by providing accurate, data‑driven failure analysis and documentation that drives corrective actions and continuous improvement.

  • Execute standardized test procedures to reproduce customer-reported issues.
  • Perform stress testing and extended evaluations to detect intermittent or hard-to-reproduce failures.
  • Determine technical accuracy, operation, and proper sequencing of test procedures
  • Provide technical support to customers
  • Provide technical reports consisting of relevant test procedures and results
  • Conduct component-level inspection and testing to isolate defective parts or systems.
  • Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions at the component and subassembly level for most customers and their products
  • Perform basic functional testing and diagnostics using multimeters, oscilloscopes, automated test equipment, and other tools, including voltage measurements
  • Differentiate between manufacturing defects, component failures, environmental factors, and user-induced damage.
  • Utilize interactive software during testing and troubleshooting
  • Document test results, rework actions, and quality findings and maintain accurate records of tests and repairs
  • Prepare detailed failure analysis reports that include root cause, supporting data, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Provide timely feedback to Quality, Engineering, Production, and Customer Support teams.
  • Support Quality Engineering in root cause investigations, CAPA activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate customer resolution.
  • Maintain compliance with customer specifications, ISO standards, and internal quality procedures
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow ESD and safety protocol
  • Adhere to General Requirements of Team Members
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to set up complex test equipment
  • Understanding of electronic components, circuits, and tools
  • Ability to operate electronic test equipment specifically including digital multi meters
  • Ability to read measurement and calibration tools and instruments
  • Ability to work in a high volume, high detail work environment
  • Ability to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail to produce quality results
  • Ability to read and interpret job orders, specifications, drawings, schematics, process sheets, and small print for basic assemblies
  • Ability to problem solve issues involving multiple variables
  • Beginner level in MS Office applications (Word and Excel)
  • Abilities listed in General Requirements of Team Members
Required Experience & Education
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or associate degree in electronics preferred
  • Technical certification or associate degree in electronics, engineering technology, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with electrical/mechanical diagnostics and test equipment.
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience (or demonstrated ability to independently perform essential functions of the job for internal candidates)
