Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and group assistance with FAFSA and New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application completion.
  • Educate students and families regarding federal, state, institutional, and community financial aid programs.
  • Conduct outreach activities to increase awareness of financial aid and college access opportunities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate FAFSA completion workshops, financial aid nights, and community presentations events.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local high schools, community organizations, libraries, and other community partners.
  • Assist prospective and continuing students with understanding financial aid requirements, deadlines, and verification processes.
  • Track outreach efforts, student participation, and completion outcomes, maintaining up-to-date records and preparing reports as requested.
  • Maintain compliance with FERPA and all federal, state, and institutional regulations related to student records and financial aid information.
  • Provide evening and weekend coverage at Brookdale campuses and off-site locations as needed.

Job description

Overview:

As part of the Community College Opportunity Grant (CCOG) Program and the College's student access and success initiatives, the FAFSA Coach provides guidance and support to students, families, and community members regarding the financial aid process and available federal, state, institutional, and community funding resources. The FAFSA Coach assists students and families with the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application, and related financial aid documentation. The position also conducts outreach and educational programming designed to increase awareness of financial aid opportunities and college affordability. Working collaboratively with Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, College Readiness NOW, Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF), Early College Programs, local school districts, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and community partners, the FAFSA Coach plans and delivers financial aid workshops, FAFSA completion events, information sessions, and community outreach activities throughout Monmouth County and surrounding service areas.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in higher education, financial aid, student services, outreach, enrollment management, community engagement, or a related field.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Experience providing direct student and family support services.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs and FAFSA application processes.
  • Knowledge of FERPA regulations and student privacy requirements.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and communities.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, prepare reports, and track outcomes.
  • Experience using computerized databases, student information systems, CRM platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Evening and weekend availability required.
  • Bilingual skills (written and spoken) are preferred.
