Job description

Faculty Positions at the most Progressive Clinically and Research Focused Dental School with advanced Community Service Engagement

Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry is seeking applicants for faculty positions. Academically oriented dentists who are interested in teaching, learning and expanding their academic careers are welcomed to apply.

Academic duties:

Faculty are expected to teach in the predoctoral and postdoctoral programs, and must also be competent to practice in their field and provide direct patient care daily as part of teaching. Temple's Dental model of education is based on an apprenticeship model where faculty are engaged as clinicians and educators, in provision of care with the students or residents.

Clinical practice for one day per week will be offered at the dental school or the new 12-chair fully equipped faculty practice located 3 miles south of the dental school in a new residential area of Philadelphia.

Requirements:

All faculty must have a DMD/DDS from a CODA accredited school, a foreign equivalent may be considered, and must have or be able to obtain a license to practice dentistry in Pennsylvania in addition to the below requirements for each position. Applicants with experience in accreditation will be preferred.

Open faculty positions:
Periodontology and Oral Implantology

Applicants must have a clinical periodontology certificate from an ADA-CODA accredited specialty program, and be board certified or eligible with the American Board of Periodontology along with a record of previous teaching.

Preference will be for a faculty have who has directed a program and is proficient in digital dentistry as well as surgical periodontal and implant care under moderate sedation.

Prosthodontics

Applicants must have an advanced prosthodontic certificate from a CODA accredited specialty program and be board certified or eligible with the American Academy of Prosthodontics, and must have experience in didactic teaching, clinical teaching, course directorship, and expertise in prosthodontics.

Preference will be for applicants who have taught predoctoral and postdoctoral courses in prosthodontics and comprehensive dentistry and have developed advanced skills in digital dentistry, a field which has been highly advanced at the dental school. Preference will be for applicants with highly advanced skills in digital dentistry.

Restorative Dentistry

Applicants must have experience in didactic teaching, clinical teaching, course directorship, and expertise in restorative dentistry. Preference will be for applicants who have taught predoctoral and postdoctoral courses in comprehensive dentistry and have developed advanced skills in digital dentistry.

Orthodontics

Applicants should have a minimum of three years of experience in clinical orthodontics and teaching. Candidates must have a Certificate in Orthodontics from a CODA accredited specialty program, and either certification by the American Board of Orthodontics or eligibility for it.

Preference will be given to applicants with previous didactic and clinical teaching experience. A strong commitment to patient care and the education of residents and dental students is required. The Department uses iTero scanner and digital printing in its operations.

Endodontics

Applicants should have experience in clinical endodontics and teaching. Candidates should have a Certificate in Endodontics from a CODA accredited specialty program, and either certification by the American Board of Endodontics or eligibility for it.

Preference will be given to applicants with previous didactic and clinical teaching experience. A strong commitment to scholarly endeavors, patient care and the education of residents and dental students is required.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS)

Applicants should have experience in clinical OMS (4- or 6- year program). A Certificate in OMS from a CODA accredited specialty program or equivalent international program and either certification by the American Board of OMS or eligibility for it or an equivalent international OMS certification. Applicants with equivalent international program or OMS non-categorical residency will be considered for pre-doctoral teaching.

The candidate must also be competent to provide direct patient care as an OMS specialist at the predoctoral, postdoctoral, sedation center, and affiliated hospitals (Temple University Hospital, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia). The faculty will practice for at least one day per week as part of their teaching responsibilities and supervise or provide care in the operating room or Temple University Hospital emergency and trauma clinics. Opportunities are available to provide care for patients with head and neck cancer, TMJ surgery, and orthographic surgery.

Salary and compensation:
  • Faculty members have 20 days of paid vacation, and 3 days of personal time per year, a generous 403B contribution, Family Medical Leave, and Long-term disability benefits.
  • Medical and dental insurance are offered at discounted premiums compared with market cost.
  • Faculty members who practice receive at least one third of the net revenues.
  • Support for attending at least one national professional meeting per year and faculty will be supported for presenting at additional meetings.
